"Until they can solidly prove it, I won't believe it. And plenty of people don't."

Why won't you believe it until they solidly prove it? Just curious, because there is no solid proof of God either, but you believe the Bible is His word, so I am just curious about your thought process on this one.

Just to clarify my view, I believe anything is possible. I don't know whether there is life that is technologically advanced, but I do believe there possibly is and that they may have visited us. With as many reports of UFOs as we have, some of which seem to have very valid stories, but not proven, I do believe there may be some merit in it and am open minded about it.

But maybe I should be careful about that open mind and have my tinfoil hats ready!!!

Sorry, Kate, it was more the comment about not believing because there is no proof. I find that argument for not believing in alien life because of lack of proof, but still believing in God, for which there is also no proof, to come across as a little contradictory and was looking for clarification on that viewpoint.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that too, that it's a little odd to refuse to believe in alien life, due to there being no proof, while embracing wholeheartedly a belief in a deity, even though no more proof exists for that then there does for aliens. (And when you think about it, the existence of aliens IS more probable...)

You have not seen God with your own two eyes, that's the bottom line. So until then, you don't have proof. You may think you do, you may have faith in that but, it's not proof.

Christina, you honestly think that in the entire vastness of our galaxy, and beyond that the infinite vastness of our universe, that our teeny-tiny little rock is the ONLY one that currently has intelligent life on it?

Well just to shake things up - I regularly drink martini's with quite a few aliens. I can speak with authority that they prefer Manhatten martini's with whiskey. We get along famously. I've even been to their solar system quite a few times where my uncle is the King...

Just kidding. I think it's highly possible and probably likely there is life on other planets. Are they traveling here? Who knows? Even if say they were, it doesn't really disprove God. I lean towards CS Lewis who believed in the probability of other life forms out there in the universe.

[deleted account]

I definitely believe in beings from other planets and I believe they have visited Earth for thousands of years. I also believe in the theory that some of the stories in the bible (and in other religious books) can be explained by aliens. History Channel does a show called Ancient Aliens and it explains a lot to me. It's all just theory mind you, but it makes more sense to me than the bible does. And I mean no disrespect to any believers here, just saying that to me, aliens make more sense than God. Either that or a lot of people in the bible were on drugs. Maybe the bush was only burning because Moses dropped hash ash on it lol

I do believe that there is other life form out there in the unending universe (still have a hard time wrapping my brain around something infinite), however I don't think they've visited earth, but I could be wrong. I also don't think they look anything like us or any of the images you see in movies. They could be giants, or microscopic. Who knows? And as for the God connection in "proof" - I see the point you're making - how can you believe in one and not the other just by way of faith? I guess that's your choice, but from a logical standpoint it makes no sense. Just because what you saw, you believe to be the works of God, doesn't mean they are. For someone who doesn't believe in God, they could see the same thing as you and explain it through rational scientific explanation - not just faith in something/someone.

Of course they are aliens, and they are taking half the socks from my laundry so although I put in 10 pairs of identical black socks I end up with 12 odd socks at the end of the wash.

I'm a skeptic. But it doesn't mean I do not think that it is entirely possible. Most things are actually possible. I find it really hilarious that people make fun of the concept of space aliens and yet believe all sorts of other crazy, magical ideas. I mean, it seems far more likely that there are aliens visiting us at this very moment than that the letters of your name change your destiny (Kabalarian philosophy).

I believe that we are extremely vain to think for one minute that God would make the whole universe just for one small planet. God Made the whole universe why not others on other planets. Faith is a whole different argument all together. Both these lovely debates could go one forever and you will never come to a satisfactory answer. Think of it this way somewhere out there is another group of female creatures debating the possibility of our existence. This debate could also go sideways and the question to then ask is there a parallel world.

Other that I live with aliens everyday they are called Husband and children.

Hey, we just found that earth-ish planet that has been pointing lasers at us (or so I hear) for years. And the UN ambassador.. maybe they're getting ready to tell us something.

I don't really have an opinion or belief on it. I love the thought of it though, and I love alien movies. :)

I'm undecided. There's no doubt other life forms exist on other planets. I've seen some crazy videos and read some crazy experiences but I'm still not 100% convinced. These guys are though http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopi...

Then with the UN appointing an ambassdor to space it makes me wonder what they know. That was a very bold move IMO. Then the skeptic comes out again and says in the age of Twitter and Youtube why haven't we heard whatever they have?

Sorry that I came off that way, Jodi. I didn't intend to :(

I'm glad you understood what I was trying to explain.. Wasn't sure if I was explaining it the best way b/c I had just finished Pledging my coffee and end tables.. May have been just a tad too close a couple times :/ lol, j/k. I did really Pledge them, I just wasn't that close.

@ HANNAH.. Don't feel bad.. My dad used to feel the same way if there were really aliens. Yeah, yeah.. Say your worst, ladies.. You'll be talking about a man that is no longer with us, though.

Jodi, I knew you weren't being nasty about it. ??

And to the both of you.. I said I saw the works of God before. That is my proof. I've seen the good he can do.

I never once said I would have to physically see an alien to believe in it, that's why I don't understand how you're trying to relate the two things. I never said I physically saw God and I never said I would have to physically see an alien to believe in one. I just said I need more proof. Proof from God to me (and others of our congregation that were present at the time). Check. Proof about or from aliens that they exist.. That can't be checked off yet..

Is this making sense how I'm trying to explain it, or did the Pledge get to my head a few minutes ago?

And like Dana said, you have faith, not proof. There is no proof that God exists. There is only faith that He does.

Jodi (and Dana), I've explained WHY I believe in God many times before. I've been to Revivals and I've been to church, in which I have SEEN the work of God. THAT is my proof. Why do people have to keep asking me that when I've explained it in this very group several times?? I've seen it with my own two eyes, THAT is my PROOF. I've felt the healing touch of God before when I was sick.. THAT is my PROOF. Does this explain my thought process well enough?

Ha, I was just about to ask Christiana that too, Jodi.

I believe in aliens, like Krista says, how can you not think that there is someone else out there in this vast universe but, unlike Krista, I can't say for certain that they haven't been here.

Like I always say, "The only thing I know for certain, is that I don't know everything"

2 years ago we took a road trip to New mexciso and spent some time in Roswell. For those outside of the U.S., Roswell, NM is the site of "where it all began" in the 1940's. All teh alien secrets, landings, probes, etc. It's a quirky town, but filled with alien-believers! Even the mailboxes & lamp posts have an alient theme. Yes, I do believe they are among us. I swear I have come across some downright bizarre students & parents, and I just wonder........

@Kirsta.. Yes, I do.. For now. I've seen several things on some channel.. I can't remember if it was the Science Channel or Discovery.. My brother had it on. But they were talking about myths and trying to figure out if there really was life on other planets.

Until they can solidly prove it, I won't believe it. And plenty of people don't.

possibly a more important question is who's to say extra-terrestrial life has to be more technologically advanced than us? they could have a similar level of technology to us or they could even have a lower tech level. on a somewhat random note my flatmate is discussing the possibility of making a teapot time-machine.

If they were significantly smarter than us, would we even know? ... unless they wanted us to, that is.

I agree with Krista, it is silly to think we are the only "intelligent" life forms out there. I say "intelligent" because it doesn't seem like humans are doing a very good job at ensuring our very long-term survival. Sometimes I wonder if we don't look like the toddlers of the universe and the other beings are merely amused by our existence.
