How does this happen? When I was 9 it wouldn't have even crossed my mind. In 3rd or 4th grade you're supposed o be having fun with your friends and enjoying life.

Playing outside, going on vacations, doing things with the family.
Talking about what you want to be when you want to grow up and your favorite food or sport.

What could devastate a cild so much to want to take their own life? This is becoming a trend and it's scary.

Right Kati, of course some kids REALLY need the meds. But if you go to the other thread, "Bi-Polar at 2?" This little girl was diagnosed at 2 with bi-polar disorder and on meds at 2!!!! (maybe you read it) At 4 she was dead because of her idiotic parents, and the doctors.

I agree, for some kids medication is the best option, I grew up with a few kids like that. But now days people are over diagnosing and over medicating these kids. Then they try to take away recess and wonder why the kids are so hyper when all they can do is sit at a desk all day.

I said for MOST children, I am anti-medication. There are the exceptions to the rule.

i'm sorry, but when you yourself has a child who has ADHD, and the only thing that works for him is medication what are you supposed to do? are you just supposed to let him go through this life so wound up, and unable to concentrate on anything that they cannot function? when any of you has a child that is that bad, come back and then start bitching about how anti-medication you are. what else are people supposed to do to help their child get through the day?

I'm anti-medication for kids for sure.. unless 5 or 6 docs said that was my only option I would NEVER put my daughter on behaviour medication...

I'm not severely anti-medication but I think people need to realise how serious the drugs they're giving their young kids are for ADHD.

This is why I am very anti-medication for most children with behavior disorders.

Even if the drugs are controlled by a doctor, they don't neccessarily know the side effects for that child. They may dismiss the "bad" or unwantwed behavior and up the meds again.

Wow. It seems like it is generally linked to this drug when it turns out not to be ADHD but more likely bipolar or depression. Just goes to show how careful people should be to ensure diagnosis by an expert, and not just meds handed over by their doctor because the teachers at school are complaining about behaviour.......this is so sad.

He's not the only one. Therehave been many cases of kids 8-9 committing suicide.

Who knows what was going on at home with this kid. Maybe there was something really bad going on at home (physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse) that he felt this was the only way out. I read a book called "A boy called It" (non fiction) once and I cried through the whole book about what his mother does to him.
