What do you believe?

I think we each create our own Heaven that include the things and people that we love.

Einstein proved though, that energy is never created or destroyed, it just changes forms (and I'm pretty sure he believed in some form of an after life for that reason)

I believe that I have absolutely no idea. I suspect I will never have any real idea, because after it happens, whatever it is that happens, it is unlikely that I will continue to reason and query as I do in my present state. So I think I will be unlikely to "know" what has happened to me because I will no longer "know" anything. That being said, I like to hope that like others here have said, that my energy will be reabsorbed into the universe and will continue to exist in that form. But I do not believe that my energy will be sentient or will necessarily continue to be all together in one place. The idea of "me" ceasing to exist does not bother me in the slightest, the idea that my energy will continue to exist is greatly comforting. In whatever way that happens.

I don't know about you Kimberly, but I personally have often believed (since I don't believe in God) that Heaven may not be a physical place but a metaphor for how we feel about ourselves the last second of our lives.

If you feel good about yourself at the moment that the last neuron fires...that equals an "eternity" of happiness...and the opposite, if you are ashamed of yourself at that very last moment, you could consider that an eternity of hell.

Kimberly I love the topics you pick. They are fascinating and it wonderful to see others opinions. As to answering your question Yes I do believe in an after life. It would be sad if this was all there was and it meant that I would never see My sister again. I know that what ever is there at the end of all the joys and tears of this life she is there waiting for me however long it takes. At least I want to believe that I can't contemplate that this is it.

life a of ETERNITY of no pain, heartache, suffering or all the other baggage that life brings.....

I must be weird, because all I can think of is that it would get rather boring after a few millennia. Not that suffering and pain are good things, but eternal consciousness, in and of itself? Man...I think I'd just get tired of that after awhile and would ask to be reincarnated so that I could experience something different.

by my theory, I'll go to heaven too. because when my last synapse fires, I will be proud of who I am :)

I believe that after we die, we are reincarnated. Your energy/life/learning never ends until you have experienced everything (good and bad) and even then, you can still come back to help other people experience everything.

I believe in heaven and hell...and I believe that after death we face judgement, and we either go to heaven or we go to hell... I have accepted Jesus Christ as my saviour and when I die, I will stand at the gates of heaven before my heavenly father who will welcome me with open arms to life a of ETERNITY of no pain, heartache, suffering or all the other baggage that life brings.....

There's my thoughts..... :)

Laura? said :I think our energy rejoins the collective energy of the universe :)

That is exactly what i believe .

I am a huge believer in energy and energy being infinate so i guess in a way afterlife is possible through our energies being reborn into say a tree or child .

@kimberly
i would love for there to be some type of afterlife, especially one filled with all my deceased loved ones, and food, plenty of fabulous food!! i just can't find it in myself to believe in it. without a shred of proof i just can't.
i guess we do live on in a way through memories that others have of us. so i do believe we should make the most of THIS life, so after death we CAN live on in a way. does that make sense? :)

I don't know...but I doubt it...I've always sort of felt that if anything happens at all, it would be the reabsorption of our energy into the universe in some way...

I honestly have no idea what happens, but I would say that Laura's agreement with the first law of thermodynamics is the one that makes the most sense to me as well -- that our bodies rot, and our energy just goes back out into universe. I don't think it's a conscious energy though -- I think that when our bodies die, our consciousness dies with it.

I do hope I'm wrong. I think it would be lovely to see my loved ones again after I die. But to me, the concept of Heaven is nothing more than a serious case of wishful thinking due to our unwillingness to accept finality.

@ Kati- I guess that would be fine too. It really wouldn't matter but my imagination is entirely too colorful to allow me to stop there. And I just imagine love and beauty and wine, there is definitely wine.

@ Toni-I think that when one dies the concept of time is no longer a factor, therefore the soul can be in different places at once.

I think heaven and hell are just different planes of existance. This is why people see ghosts/demons/whatever...it's crossover or windows into another plane.

[deleted account]

That's intersting Laura, I have never thought about it like that. I suppose my belief that if you are killed suddenly you are trapped until you resolve your issues is similar, maybe?

[deleted account]

I believe that we go to heaven, if we are not pure enough to enter heaven or if our life was stole from us abrutly/ violently then we are trapped on earth until we have resolved our issue/s and are pure enough to enter heaven.

I don't believe in hell, the God I believe in is forgiving and loves ALL his children.

Kimberly, I don't mean to be rude but I was wondering, if we all create our own heaven how could all the people we love be there because wouldn't their heaven be different?
