Jesus in South Florida
His name is Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda; his followers call him everything from apostle to Dad, or simply Jesus Christ Man. De Jesus Miranda himself believes he’s the living incarnation of “Jesus Christ Man,” “the second coming of Christ.”

A follower of his believes “he is God, he is God.” She also lavishes him with money and gifts.

"I don’t have one Rolex,” de Jesus Miranda said, “I have 3 because they want to give it to me. It's like that woman that came to Jesus with the expensive perfume and put it on his feet. He didn’t reject it, so when someone gives me a watch or a gift, I receive it. I like them too, they're nice."

He says there is no sin. He has over 100,000 followers.
I like the ‘no sin’ concept. He calls himself the ‘anti Christ’ because he so dislikes organized religions. He says the Christian religions use fear and hate to control the followers. He stands in opposition to that.

He doesn’t believe marriage lasts forever. He drinks, he smokes, he laughs and plays. He says life is about having fun, living in joy.
He wears a 666 tattooed on his arm as a protest to the Christian church.

Now, when the orginal Jesus came to Earth - and for this discussion, let's just say he did. He was not well received. Laughed at, yelled at, arrested, and killed.

So, hummm, what up with this guy? Is he the 'real thing'?

Now, where he really lost me was with the statement about a big event soon to happen - only his followers, folks with 666 tats, will be saved ... that seems to stand in opposition to his teachings.

but wouldn't Jesus (the first) have committed a sin against GOD for claiming he was the son of God?...I doubt that the Romans (the people who crucified Jesus) CARED if he broke a Hebrew law...that's just silly....you're fooling yourself.

Why don't people who follow the bible EVER admit that the bible (or what they've been taught ABOUT the bible) is just plain wrong...and almost none of it makes any sense?

I am curious though...if people are not "allowed" to claim that they are the son of god...how did Jesus the first get away with it? And how are you supposed to know when "the real" Jesus the second arrives if he can't tell you who he is?

Jen,

The thing about the Bible is it can be taken to mean whatever it is you want it to mean.

Let us take my last post, for an example, citing Genesis 5:3-5 it says that Adam lived for nine hundred and thirty years. Well here are some questions one, or at least I, ask :

1. How long was nine hundred and thirty years?
2. Could it have been nine hundred and thirty seasons?
3. How many seasons were there?
4. If, by some odd chance, the years were the same then as they were now, did he really live 930 months? That would put him at about 77, 78 right?

Later in Genesis it says that God became upset with mankind and cut life to only 150 years. Once again how long were these years?

People tend to think that they can fit the Bible into today's life and times with the meaning we give things ex:365 days in a year.

This has also raised questions like "How did God create the universe and everything in it in 7 days?" How long was 7 days? I can assure you God did not create the universe and everything in it in a 40 hour work week.

I believe the Bible should be taken for truth and should be respected but, also remember that much of what it stated in the Bible does not fit in our times. We can not punish someone for killing someone by stoning them to death. That is cruel and unusual. Way back when, they did not have electric chairs or other forms of execution.

There are parts of the Bible that I have read that I do believe were altered because, someone did not like what it said. I do believe there is also a lot of truth in the Bible. I rely heavily on the relationship I have with God instead of a book written by people living at the time. Not that I am calling any of them liars but, I was not there I do not know if what they say is true. I do believe Jesus existed and I do believe a vast majority of what is written in the New Testament.

I would like to think that one thing that keeps me open minded is the fact that I do not "live" by the Bible and what is says is acceptable or not acceptable.

I am a fairly open person. I do not make comments about individuals and their Religion or lack of in a harmful manner. Simply because, I think the last thing we need in this world is more hate. I do not dislike or disapprove of others who differ from me. If there is an argument going on and someone proclaiming to be Christian is WAY out of line, I will call them out. God tells us we must love and respect EVERYONE not, who want to.

Laura, that's why Jesus was crucified. His only 'crime' was claiming to be God.

If you believe the Bible (which I do) it says (total paraphrasing cuz I'm nowhere near as Biblically versed as I should be) that EVERYONE will KNOW it is Him. He won't have to tell us.

Brittany, for me to form a firm belief about whether or not the guy is another coming of Jesus based on the word of the bible, I would need to believe in the bible as the word of God. Which I don't. So for me, it is entirely possible that he is the second coming of Jesus. Or not. I'd have to say I lean pretty intently towards the NOT end of the equation, but there is really no way for me to be certain. Kind of like how I don't believe the bible, but admittedly, it's entirely possible. What do I know! LOL. Which is why I'm an agnostic.

"It is kind of like these screw balls who say they know when the second coming is going to happen."

And by the way, I'm not sure how it is particularly "respectful" of the religious beliefs of others to call them "screwballs"? This is pretty much the point I was trying to make about how atheists are not the only ones to have a difficult time respecting the beliefs as others. You clearly believe that the bible is the word of God, at least to some extent. When someone else intereprets it differently than you have, you call them a "screwball". Atheists are just not buying into the whole package, regardless of the interpretation it is given. I'm not sure what the difference is?

It's not just 'no sin' There is no hell, a point on which I also agree. There is 'mans law' and if you commit a crime, you go to jail. But that is different from God's law. God doesn't send people to jail.

I don't think he is hurting anyone and his message is one of peace. I think the reason people react is more about who he says he is, or who his followers believe he is.

But, again, Jesus himself was not believed or well received. Jesus, the original, said "I am Jesus" and the masses said, "are not" - I am not quoting exactly here

So, why not? And, in 2000 yrs how will he be remembered?

for the record, by the way...he doesn't claim to be God...one of his followers says he is.

If somebody else says he's jesus is he allowed to agree? Or does he have to actively deny it?...just curious

Johnny,

You say it is entirely possible he is Jesus. According to The Bible he is not Jesus. He is not Jesus because, he said he is. Jesus will not announce himself.

It is kind of like these screw balls who say they know when the second coming is going to happen. Well, again according to the Bible, it states that NO MAN will know when the second coming is going to happen. Therefore, bt default, if someone says the second coming is going to happen on December 23rd, 2012 then we can rule that date out becuaes, no man knows. With this situation we can rule this man out as being Jesus becuase, he says he is.

As for Mr. Miranda, it is entirely possible he is the son of God. If there is a god. I consider myself an agnostic atheist, so I don't really claim to know what is going on or really believe in anything. For me, this Jesus is just as likely as any other. It would suck though, I can not stand prosperity theology at all. The "no sin" stuff is nice, but it really doesn't make up for the crazy stuff about the 666 tats. Oh, and the tacky Rolex thing, hello 1980's!

I think I understand you Brittany. I think that stance leaves a lot of leeway and easy-outs but that's another story. Thank you so much for the thorough and polite answer.

[deleted account]

Just curious Brittany. Are you a person who believes the Bible should be taken as 100% literal truth or a combination of metaphorical prophecy and literal truth?

Laura,

Again from The Catholic Bible

Genesis 5:3-5

"When Adam had lived for one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years; and he had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died."

Adam was the first to introduce the two types of death. Spiritual and Physical Death. Also in Genesis 5 it goes on to talk about Seth's age at death and several other decedents.

My problem is not the bible in itself. I think it is an interesting story which has a LOT of metaphor in it what upsets me is the people who interpret it literally...that makes me bananas because clearly it's impossible to rectify all that it says IF you read it literally...that's all.

" WHO married Cain by the way? if Eve was the only woman on the planet...I suppose she may have had a daughter (that for some reason wasn't mentioned even though there was pages upon pages of who begot who)...seriously...who did Cain marry...IF the story of Adam and Eve is read literally ? "

Once again I am quoting the Catholic N.R.S.V Edition.

Genesis 5:4

"The days of Adam after he became the Father of Seth were eight hundred years; and he had other sons and daughters."

So Cain married one of his sisters. So yes, it was mentioned.

Seeing as how you keep saying that people do not know what the Bible actually says then tell us. What does the Bible actually say?

many people who do believe in the bible disagree with you...cause like I said...you guys all twist it into what YOU want it to be...that's how one book leads into a hundred different factions.

[deleted account]

Um... my entire answer was IF you believe the Bible.... so any answer I give to any question you give will not be acceptable to you since you obviously don't believe the Bible.

you can twist and turn anything to mean what YOU want it to mean...I bet I can prove that the bible approves homosexuality as many times as you can find quotes against it...you guys just follow your "leaders", paying NO attention to what the bible actually says.

Laura,

I am citing the Catholic N.R.S.V Bible.

From The Book of Matthew 24:40-44
"Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore, you must also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour."

It blows my mind sometimes, the insane things people do and then they say "Jesus made me do it!" That is like shooting someone and saying "Eminem made me do it!" NO HE DIDN'T!

Have these people ever gone to church? Do they read? What part of Humans are not Gods, just escapes their minds? I am not one to call someone stupid but, this guy is stupid. Lord, forgive me. He is just downright a moron.

Today must be one of those days for me. I have been ranting all day long and my poor husband has to hear it all.

This guy is a quack and when Jesus does come back, Yes I am Catholic and Yes I believe he will come back, this man is in A LOT of trouble.

Humans are not supposed to go around acting like Gods or saying they are Jesus. Jesus does not three Rolex watches, a pimp car and a house on the hill.

I hope this guy is paying his taxes.

I seriously doubt he is the Second Coming. I can, however, see Jesus not partcularly liking organized religion, especially as practiced in the U.S. As I recall, he didn't have much use for the organized religion in his day, either (vipers, serpents, etc.).
