I have a cat that needs to be de-wormed. I bought the medication to do so, it's pill form. So I crushed them up with a mortar and pestle and put them with a small bit of canned salmon. She wouldn't touch it. They are too big to be shoved down her throat.
I was thinking I could crush them and mix them with something and use a medicine syringe to make sure it goes down her throat. What is the best liquid to use?
Thanks

I would highly recommend still getting whatever dewormer you are going to use from the vet to ensure product quality and dosing. But whatever you decide to do, please remeber to check another stool sample 3 weeks after last dosage to re-check for intestinal parasite. This is to make sure the product worked, and that they did not get re-infected. I know that you have many kids, so it is as much as their protection to re-check as for your cat. Good luck.

PS if you have any other cats that share the same litter pan, you may want to check them also....or dogs for that matter....they sure do like the tasty nuggets that cats leave behind!

You can buy liquid wormer at the pet store for roundworms. It's damn near impossible to pill a cat. I'd give up on the pills and go for the liquid wormer, honestly.

What is the name of it? Why wouldn't they give you a script for that? It should totally be in liquid form...Strongid is the good stuff...you should only have to do one today, repeat in 3 weeks, check a stool qfter that...if clear should be fine....just 2 liquid yellow treatments 3 weeks apart...and it is pretty cheap.

Round worms and I bought a Brand name wormer over the counter at the vets office.
Thanks though, I'll decide tomorrow after Steve and I try to get them down her throat.

Val syrup...call your vet and see if they will either sell you 5cc worth (1cc per pill) or if they will make it into luquid for for you. I am guessing tapeworms? Drontal plus?

uhhhgh good luck i hate giving cats medicine! When our dog was a puppy we didnt know he had fleas, the cat ate a flea got worms and i had no idea. I was 7 mo prego sleeping and i wake up to the cat sleeping on my pillow with a worm comming out of his butt. I FREAKED!! i thought maybe somehow i had swallowed worms and that they were going to eat my baby!!!! i went to dr to them to basically tell me just watch your poo!!!! Needless to say i went through the frustrating fiasco of getting my cat to swallow those pills!

yea but she has to take 5 of the damn things, this sunday, 4 next and 5 the sunday after.
She also has all her claws and is a feisty little devil.
My other vet always gave me a liquid wormer to be used with a medicine syringe. I"m just trying to figure out what to mix with the crushed pills that will go down her throat.

I had to do this with my cat too, they gave me pill pockets but the cat refused them. If you still have a whole pill you open your cats mouth firmly and stick the pill as far back on his tounge as possible the cat will instantly swallow and if it was back far enough it will go down. Presto. After the vet showed me this, no more fooling around and crushing up pills that he would refuse to take!
