On the top of my list is Barney, followed closely by Teletubbies, then this new one called Bed Bugs, and then Wonder Pets. I hate Barney because it's nauseating, same thing for Teletubbies. I hate Bed Bugs because it's just damned creepy and I really don't like Wonder Pets because of the duckling. I really don't like the fact that he has a speech impediment; drives me nuts. So, what shows do you hate and why?

Wow Meghan, apparently there's no imagination allowed in your house either :\ hardcore

"They make shit up" It's called *make believe* - using your *imagination* to make everyday things into fun and interesting things that children will learn from.

I don't know if you know this but your child will learn Spanish 100 times easier at a young age than "later in life" if he chooses to do so. If he learns Spanish early and can put that on his resume, it will make him more valuable to more employers. He won't forget English because he learns Spanish ;)

Damn those educational fun shows like Dora or Diego.

Can't STAND Waybaloo! My SD and son don't like it either. Using nonsense words like 'piplings' and doing yoga all the time. Caillou is pretty annoying. Oh yeah, Noonbury has to be way high on my list. It reminds me of pokemon and also uses non-sense words like borries and gurries. Sid the Science Kid I find pretty boring....

What on Eawth do you mean, Kate? You don't like the Wondew Pets? That little duckling is just so dawn cute!

Haha.. I can't stand her, either! I can't stand the fact that they allowed a CHILDREN'S show to have someone that can't speak properly as one of the characters (chawactews.. heehee). It just wubs me the wong way. OMG, I can't stop!!!

~Barney- I absolutely HATE Barney!!!!!!

~Teletubbies- Can't stand them, but haven't seen it on lately.

~Pee-Wee's Playhouse.. I haven't seen that on in a long time, but I've never liked it. He's gross, SUPER creepy and it's really not much of a kids show, either.

~GARFIELD.. I HATE GARFIELD!!!!!

~Goof Troop

~Mickey's Clubhouse (or something to that affect)

~Spongebob.. HATE, HATE, HATE!!!!!!!!!!!! Spongebob!

~Caillou

~Sesame Street

~Peppa Pig

~Handy Manny

~ROLIE POLIE OLIE

~Scooby Doo

There are more, but I think you get the picture.. Wow, thinking back about some of the older shows made me think of all the ones I used to like..

"SQUARE ONE.." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPvOthnDj...

Haha.. Takes you back..

I'm not really a fan of The Fresh Beat Band ( really only because the guy that raps kinda gives me the creeps...ok, well they are really just give me the creeps)......and I could really probably just give or take The Wonder Pets (that DAMN duck!!)

My little one LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba, I actually do to. Those songs are so catchy and the guest stars are great!

[deleted account]

Meghan-I hate Dora to. I like Tom and Jerry and Looney toons also.
Most of the cartoons on tv are just stupid anymore, Fairly odd parents, Jimmy Nutron, Johnny Test, just to name a few. Rescue Ranger was cool, Dark Wing Duck, and my kids loves Smurfs and Care Bears.

Actually Sherri, I was responding to the "Wow Meghan, apparently there's no imagination allowed in your house either :\ hardcore " accusation. What a terrible thing to say, especially when you don't know my child and what an imaginative, realistic, and amazing child he is.

I hate Caillou, Barney, Arthur, Martha, Angelina Ballerina, and Thomas (tho I do see the value in Martha and Thomas, and don't mind Miles watching them...they just annoy me).

Definatley by far its in the night garden the4y dont speak props at all there names i cant even pronounce and they squeak all of the time lol dont know if i feal this way because my daughter loves it and she puts it on whenever she c an :S lol

[deleted account]

I actually like Dragon Tales. I wouldn't mind my baby watching it. At least the older episodes, if they've made new ones. the older episodes were okay by my standards. Also, I liked Arthur. There was also this one show on Disney about a little girl whose best friend was an alien who crash-landed in her back yard and the alien lived with them? I can't remember the name of the show but it was like a story book and the alien was purple and pink made cute noises and it was my favorite. I loved that show.

But these new things? Ugh. Wonder Pets is horrible. My husband HATES that show but every time we visit our friend who has a 2yo it's on and my hubby sings and the song gets stuck in his head so he's singing the stupid theme all day long and can't help it. I want to break our friend's DVD in half.

My mom just bought tickets for my daughter to see the Caillou stage show. Steve and I professed our extreme gratitude, but only after she said she would take her. Until she made that clear, I was thinking matricidal thoughts.

[deleted account]

i think i hate all of them. they all seem idiotic and did so when i was a kid too. i never watched them when i was little, avoid them like the plague now, and will not allow my child to watch them when he/she is born and gets old enough to watch TV. children are not as stupid as the creators of those shows seem to think they are. but when kids watch them, the little lights in their heads seem to dim significantly...

My son is only 2.5 and we don't watch too much TV, so I haven't seen many of those shows yet. However, I cannot stand Baby Bear on Sesame Street! I don't care that he has a speech impediment, but it drives me nuts because it sounds like he is faking one ... Odd detail, I know, but I just don't like him.

After I posted last night I remembered an article in the September 2010 issue of Today's Parent. The article is called "TV To Feel Good About" by Dafna Izenberg and it lists the top 10 programs that are fun and even help preschoolers learn. They are:

Blue's Clues
Dora the Explorer
Franklin
The Jungle Room/ The Ocean Room
Max & Ruby
My Friend Rabbit
Peep and the Big Wide World
Rollplay
Sesame Street
Toopy and Binoo

Forgot to all about Cailou, that whining, irritating, self-centered little shit we all love to hate. Why is it that he has to do everything parents don't want their kid to do in order to learn a lesson? Why does he have to whine all the time? And why are his parents so apathetic about all the whining, sure "mommy gets cross" sometimes. But really? That one takes the cake for me. Even the song drives me up the wall. Thankfully all my kids feel the same way. They actually make fun of Caillou and will call each other Caillou if they are whining like him, lol

LOL I hate the speech impediment on the duck too!! I have always wondered why they had to include him.

I have always hated Barney I think he's creepy and over the top with this 'love'.

Teletubbies are also creepy but what bothers me more is their lack of proper language. It's all gibberish.

Never seen Bed Bugs, but I can't stand Max and Ruby and Blue'sRoom. I liked Blues Clues with Steve not Joe.

There are a few I do like. I like Miss Spiders Sunny Patch. :), and Arthur of course, there are a couple of other short ones on TVO that I can't remember the name of...

But sometimes I come across something and think "someone somewhere should be fired."

We don't have cable or satellite, BUT we do have a computer hooked up to the TV (hubbies a geek) so we have netflix.
That being said.... I HATE Dora. For a few reasons.
1. I'm one of those annoying Americans that think America should be an English speaking country and I refuse to teach my son spanish at such an early age. If he chooses to do so later in life, fine.
2. They make shit up. They literally take things from real life and screw them up. Ice cream mountain anyone? This may not seem like a big deal but when I'm talking to my son about volcanoes and he tells me that candy comes out, I have a problem with that.
3. The songs, ugh! "backpack backpack... blah blah blah."
Blues clues is ok in moderation. We like Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and the Looney Tunes in our house.

Aren't all the guys from the wiggles former school teachers? They're no different than any other teacher in the world - they play make believe, sing songs and teach... my preschool and elementary school teachers all did the same things the guys from the wiggles do on their show... the only difference is my teachers didn't wear "uniforms" or specific outfits like the wiggles do :\

[deleted account]

Loureen, I stretched it by using the term pedophile. I just don't like them. They creep me out but in general I am not too fond of shows with grown ups acting like that whether men or women... Don;t have a precise reason for it.

Yes, the fact that they are men makes me more uneasy than if they were women. As to why exactly? not sure. The reason isn't quite clear in my head but they make me uneasy.

[deleted account]

I can't stand Max & Ruby and the Wot Wots.

My son loves In The Night Garden, The Wiggles, Dora, Diego and Thomas the Tank Engine.

Kate - I would do that except I don't own ANY gaming console. My hubby is anti-console and I dont' really mind, I gave away my classic NES because I didn't have time to play anyways (and it took like 10 minutes of blowing to get the damn game to work - which reminds me of this awesome t-shirt I woul dhave bought if I wa a guy.. It's a pic of an NES cartridge and blow me underneath.. lol.. so off topic.

Joanna - that's cute! My older one has no real intrest in the show, but it keeps my 7 month old occupied briefly... and if she randomly said that i'd be scared since my almost 23 month old still can't talk.. lol..

[deleted account]

Teletubbies literally creeps the s**t out of me, so that is the one I can't stand. Almost all kids shows are nauseatingly perky, especially in the morning. Extra doses of caffeine are required. lol

I like Playhouse Disney a lot, because I find they don't use stupid baby language most of the time. I'm not a fan of Mickey mouse clubhouse and the way they massacre words (mouse-ka-tools? wth??) but other than that, even that isn't so bad. Strawberry shortcake annoys me, but I hate overtly girly shows, thank goodness my daughter prefers Handy Manny (YAY!)..

So I guess strawberry shortcake, and those creepy teletubbies and barney which I will never have on in this house.

Either way, we're cutting back on expenses, and cancelling our satelite at the end of the month, so we'll only watch what the bunny ears pick up (not much) or DVDs.

Allison LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba. I used to hate it but I find all the 70's references kind of amusing. She also loves Spongebob and Blues Clues. She has just started to get into the Fresh Beat Band too. Although I can't stand the brunette, KiKi, or whatever her name is. I just want to pull her hair

I used to love Dumbos Circus and Welcome to Pooh Corner, My lil Pony, The Smurfs and ALL of the Looney Toons Cartoons.

I LOATHE any of the anime cartoons! I don't know why I just do. I think the Wonder Pets are cute but i cannot stand that Ming Ming has that stupid speech impediment. Drives me bonkers. I also don't like Olivia. They kind of freak me out.

Fraggle Rock!! Loved that show. And the Muppet Show, I've actually got them all on DVD. Fred Penner's Place was also a big favorite. I wish it was still on. Very good show, even my parents liked it.

I also used to love David the Gnome. Apparently the very last episode was never aired in the US because it's all about David dying and saying goodbye to all his friends. Kinda glad I never saw that as a child...

Some of the shows are just inoffensive -- they don't bother me. Like Little Bear, My Friend Rabbit, Guess with Jess, stuff like that. I get a kick out of Big and Small...Small is such a little spaz and he cracks me up. I'm not a fan of Max and Ruby -- Max just always seems to misbehave and get away with it. I actually like Yo Gabba Gabba -- it's funky, like Sesame Street USED to be, before that little red bastard showed up. The one Sam likes best is Thomas the Tank Engine. He's just riveted by it.

I miss Mister Dressup. He was my favourite.

[deleted account]

This might sound very crude but have you ever seen Toopy's tail? I warn you in advanced, it will scar you.

[deleted account]

Caillou because he's a whinny annoying brat and his parents don't do anything about it.

Max and Ruby..... ugh that annoying big sister trying to control EVERYTHING. can't stand it.

the Wiggles are creepy as hell... pedophiles anyone?
