All right ladies, do you have an e-reader and, if so, which do you prefer? I want to buy one...

The page numbers only show up on some of the books he's loaded into it, and they do not always match up with the printed version of the book. I did not realize when I posted earlier that all of them didn't have numbers, I just happened to start a new book this afternoon in the car line at school and it didn't have numbers and I was like "well, crap, now I know what she was talking about" :P
So I asked hubby about it and he said it only shows up on some, and even then, they don't always match up with the printed version of the book.

We have a Kindle. My husband did all the research but I bought it for him. Dana, our Kindle has a book mark feature and chapters.

My husband also loves that he can go online and download users manuals for almost everything we have and store them on the kindle--so no more bog box of manuals! Also good for a lot of his work documents, it can read several different types of documents. The kindle also allows you to loan books out, and you can even "borrow" books from stores to read before you buy. There are also hundreds of free books for the kindle--almost all of the "classics" or anything that is "free domain"

Yeah, I liked with the Sony you could just see what page you're on, the percentage of how much you've read just isn't good enough for me. I don't see why they can't just give you a page number, you'd think by now they'd figure that out.

Dana, my Kindle tells you how far along you are in the book with a percentage and bar at the bottom. For example, the book I'm reading right now is 400 pages long and I'm at 8%. The bar at the bottom is 8% filled. Also, when I switch it on and off, it automatically goes to the page where I left off.

Kelly, I heard that there will be a feature on the kindle where you can borrow and lend books...it already exists? How can I get that feature?

there are pros and cons to all of them. The one's i've had are the kindle and the nook (original).

I had a 2nd gen Kindle and it broke so I got a nook. I ended up absolutely hating the nook. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great things about the nook. My main problem with it is that it locks up ALL the time. Literally once a week and the nook customer support says that it is normal!!! I did like that it had the time and the actual page numbers instead of locations. But that was about it. I never used the internet on it because the screen was so small. It might be better on the nook color. I know they lock up too. I went in to B&N and there was a lady who had just gotten it and charged it when it locked up and they couldn't get it unlocked. She had to get a new one. Unfortunately the store couldn't give her one, she had to go through the company and have it sent to her. they said it would take a min. of two week. Idk. I've really bad experiences with Nook.

So I decided to go back to Kindle. I've had it for a month and only charged it once. I love it. The fact that it has the locations rather than page numbers is annoying esp because i want to use it for school but I remember seeing something about APA coming out with a kindle format.(??)

Yeah, I think they all have book marks and I'm glad to hear they have chapters now too. When I said "it tells you what page you are on", I meant that the Sony will give you a page number from the actual book. So if you know the book is 500 pages long, then you know if you're reaching the end or not.

So you can actually tell how far along you are in the book now with the new Kindles?

well i don't have one, but i want a nook. my bestie has one and she chose it based off of the fact that she can get books from almost any site except amazon. the kindle you can only get stuff from amazon. also the nook you can loan SOME books to friends, you dont' have that option with the kindle. AND, lol, you can check out e-books from our local library FOR FREE with the nook. definitely look at that option when you are deciding which one you want. your library may not. :)

I have the Kindle 3G. I didn't pick it out, but I love it. My husband did all the research and said it had the highest ratings, and he thought I'd like it better than the other options.

It reads like a book, no glare, downloads books quickly, easy to use (didn't even crack open the instruction book). One drawback, it doesn't have an internal light source for reading in the dark. I'm going to purchase a small light to hook to it though.

My son has one through leap frog, I think. He has it at his dad's house. They seem happy with it

Oops, well I can buy the Sony locally as well, but it's more expensive and I think the Kobo is more similar to the Kindle than the Sony...

Yeah Ebony, it's still not compatible in Canada and they won't ship here anyways :( *sigh*

I think I am leaning towards a Kobo, basically because it's the only one that I don't have to order online, and they accept ePub format (same with the Sony), which the kindle doesn't..but I'm still not sure...

I had a Sony eReader (someone stole it from my hospital room, the bastards) and now I have a Kindle. I do miss the fact that with the Sony, it had chapters and told you what page you were on. The Kindle doesn't do that. :(

Lol thanks ladies, but a Nook is out of the question, I live in Canada and you can't get them here. It's lame.
