I know this is silly but i am going to be studying next yr and can't decide what i would prefer. So i was wondering what you all use and what you think of what ever it is?

That's definitely a course that needs contact classes!!

Good luck Shannen :)

I'm studying to become a midwife and Newcastle uni doesn't do it externally otherwise i'd probably do it like that. what i know i have to look into is weather i have to attend all classes on campus or if i could do some via the net.I'm in the process of all that now.

Thanks for your help it's been fantastic.

I did mine with Deakin University and University of New England - they both have external studies too :)

Check into it Shannen. With the internet these days, external studies are getting easier and easier. Back when I started Uni, the internet was in its infancy and not really a major part of the set up of the course. I can imagine it would be so much easier now for me to have studied my course!!

Yeah I know I was just wondering if it was able to be done external. I went to CQU so every single course the do can be done externally lol.

Emma, I think it depends on the course as to whether it CAN be done externally. I did my Bachelor of Arts externally. I had to do a couple of summer schools for a few weeks, but mostly I had no classes to attend. The same when I did my Masters Degree. I am about to do my Graduate Diploma of Secondary Education and that is the type of degree that NEEDS contact hours. But I am in Canberra, so have easy access to the University here. However, it is worth checking into whether the course you want to do is available through Open Learning or for off-campus studies :) For some courses it just isn't practical.

I live in QLD so not sure if the systems are the same but when I moved out west I just did my course externally so I didn't have to go to uni (because there isn't one with nursing here) just watched the lectures on the net and emailed the lecturer questions and stuff. It's way easier than being an internal student. For me it was anyway.

Not sure yet. I have to talk to them about it all that sort of stuff yet. I'm In NSW so i'm not sure if it willl be different to what your used to. I haven't started yet thats why i'm doing all my research on what i might need now.

dang. that would suck is this like a 12 weeks a term thing or just residential school where you go for 4 days and do all the stuff everyone who is internal does in 12 weeks?

[deleted account]

i'm goign to try and organise it so my classes are all on the same few days and all in a row so i will stay at a friends for those days.

I am going to have to travel 3ish hours to get to my UNI when i start so thats why i need a laptop. We already have a desktop but the kids get to it and like to try and beak things.

My laptop is 17 inches or something and it's never left the house even for residential school lol I should have bought a desktop computer so I couldn't sit in front of the tv with the laptop hahaha

I love my laptop. I have a larger one, but it means I can do my work in any room in the house!!! And chat to you ladies, of course ;P

Hubby has a laptop too. We can sit and work while watching our favourite TV shows or movies!!

Just so you know, I do NOT take it to the bathroom with me. Laptops are banned from bathrooms around here ;P Just so you know I'm never chatting to you all sitting on the crapper!!!!

After a lot of research & consideration we'll be buying a second laptop rather than a netbook.

I'd be going a laptop and a voice recorder :) Record the lectures, and you have a decent size keyboard to be typing up your assignments.

I use a Macbook. I love it. Not too big, not too small. Easy to use. Probably more expensive that a normal laptop but they're quality (IMO) and have heaps of applications.

I have had both, I prefer a laptop, if your writing assignments your fingers and hands get sore after typing on a netbook for too long. Laptops generally have more functions and power too.
