PARIS - A three-year-old French boy died after allegedly being locked inside a washing machine that was switched on as a punishment, Le Parisien reported Monday.

Bastien Champenois' father is accused of loading the naked toddler into the machine at the family's home in Germigny-l'Eveque, just outside Paris, and then running a cold wash cycle for a few minutes.

Christophe Champenois, 33 -- who was arrested by police soon after the incident last Friday -- was reported to have wanted to punish his son for misbehaving at kindergarten. The boy had flushed a classmate's drawings down the toilet.

Bastien's mother, Charlene, aged 25, released her son and ran to a neighbor's house with his limp body in her arms, claiming he had fallen down the stairs.

"I took him in my arms like a broken doll," the neighbor, Alice, told the newspaper. "I felt the last beat of his heart. Charlene didn't move. She was red all over. She didn't understand he was dead."

The parents stuck to their story about an accident on the stairs, but the couple's five-year-old daughter told neighbors how her brother was locked inside the washing machine and that it was not the first time. Sometimes the three year old was locked inside a closet for around two hours, she said.

Christophe Champenois was charged with murder of a minor. Charlene Champenois was charged with not preventing a crime and not assisting a person in danger.

So disgusting. You need a license to catch a fish and a permit to put up a deck in your backyard but any fucknut can be a dad.

I saw this news artical on my phone it angered me beyond words I looks at my son and had a terrible time trying not to cry as I was at the car wash with my partner. Where do you think he learnt his behaviour in the first place. I hate the saying do as I say not as I do. I remember reading that people had noticed a change in the childs behaviour they were concerned. So why didn't they say or do something. Which is always the case with things like this. If you notice something isn't right with a child say something. It might not mean anything but it's better to speak up and be wrong then to wait until it's too late like with this little boy. I also read yesterday about a woman who tried to kill her daughter and had killed her son. It was known the woman was mentally unstable. She'd been hospitalised because she had an absession with death so why was she aloud to be alone with her children. There is something seriously when children are still being abused and murdered in this day and age when it could have been prevented.

How heartbreaking!! Okay, hang on, who even looks at a washing machine and thinks..."Hmm, well that's an even better punishment than a time-out!"?? Maybe they clean their clothes by placing them in a chair in the corner? That poor little boy must have been absolutely terrified. Damn assholes. Perhaps then his punishment should be the commercial washing machine in prison. Sounds fair to me.

That poor child! omg! I think the father should have his balls ripped off. I just can't say what I really want to about the mother. She should have stopped him. It pisses me off that she allowed something like this to happen.

It saddens me to think that ANY idiot can become a parent and have supreme authority over another human being, no matter how ignorent that parent is. This parent apparently has issues other than bad parenting. very sad.

OMG, Sherri D:. When I opened this thread I thought it would be about a child hiding in the washing machine and getting locked in by accident. Tragic and horrifying, but this ... I don't have an adjective over-the-top enough for this. That poor little boy. WTF.

It's frustrating, because even if we save one...there are so many others out there. I can't think about it too much, or I'll be in the fetal position in the corner, clutching a bottle of antidepressants.

D@mn. I read this yesterday and pushed it out of my head because it was so disturbing. Today, I went to do my laundry and cried. I literally cannot step into my laundry room now without thinking of this story. Great. That poor child.

Fuck, people are sick. That poor little baby. I hope those "parents" have the book thrown at them.

WTF. How can you claim a toddler who drowned "fell down the stairs'. How dumb can you be and still breathe? Fuck. Who does this. And flushing a classmates pictures down the toilet, big fucking deal. I wouldn't even punish my kid for that.

I don't know why I read these.

Going to snuggle my three year old angel.

I don't understand what goes through someones mind to do something like this, or hell to abuse a child at all. Wtf is wrong with people?
