Make yourself invisible on Facebook

MOST HELPFUL POSTS

[deleted account]

Oh I keep it where people can post and talk to me and all that. I just make it where only the people I want to do that stuff can do it. Only people I know and trust.

There were a few people on my friend's list who got hacked by people they didn't even know in another country. I think in general, it's just people who have nothing better to do or get a kick out of messing with people.

My friends can see anything. I have it set though, so that you can't even find me on FB atm unless we have a mutual friend.

Yeah, those apps don't really "hack" your account, but they do use your info for their own purposes. I can't help but laugh when I see one of my friends click on those stupid things - like the one that says "OMG - this girl killed herself after her Dad posted this on her wall." DURRR!!!!!

As for the hacking, I know someone who has tried on multiple occasions to hack into my FB (my oldest daughter's biological mother has actually asked my daughter to spy on me and get my password! My daughter told her bio mom that she wouldn't do it though "because that's not nice!" [my daughter's own words] and she told me about it - lol).

The best defense against hacking is to make a super secure password. I saw an article on how to do that once. I'll see if I cna find it again and I'll post it here if I can :)

Another way to prevent hacking is to not click on many applications and such. There's a new one that says it lets you see how many profile views you have, but it's really hacking into your account and it posts something to your feed to get your friends to click on it so it can hack into their accounts. If you're on top of it and pay close attention, those things are pretty easy to spot and avoid :)

I already had a lot of those settings. I am manic about my internet privacy and I don't want anyone seeing anything if I don't know them. BUT, I didn't go completely invisible (like the article suggests to do) because I still want to share stuff with my family and friends on my friends list :)

Yeah, mine is and always has been set to private. If you search for me on FB, all you'll see is the basics - not photos, not my wall, not my info, not my friends.

Joy i do agree with making it only friends. I just don't see the point of having FB if no one can do nything or talk to you.

I've been hacked before and it wasn't anyone I knew. I'm not rich and there is nothing on my FB to imply that I am, so it wasn't money or financial info they were after. It's usually NOT someone who knows you. I suggest, from personal experience, that you girls lock your FB down like Fort Knox. I have it set where only friends can post on my wall. Only friends can see my pictures. I also have it to where some people on my friends list CAN'T see my pictures.....a few old high school friends I randomly found, but don't know well enough to be ok with them oogling my son or any of my personal photos. You'd be amazed at what a hacker will do to and with your account.

Hmm..some people really need to get a life I guess. Sheesh! I don't know anyone who's had that happen. My guess is it would be someone who doesn't like you and is trying to spy on you or something - that's why you need to make your passwords for everything something totally random.

You may not be that exciting Jen but hackers do that kind of stuff anyways just to be total dicks. I've had several friends have their own facebook hacked.

I'm with Shannen - what's the point if you can't post to each other? And why would I be concerned if someone hacked into my account? Am I that exciting that someone wants to pretend to be me? I don't get it.

"Stay on the 'Customize Settings' page and scroll down to 'Things Others Share.' Here, you'll want to edit and disable settings so that your friends are unable to write on your wall, comment on posts and check you in to places."

But i want them to be able to comment and post things. I don't want them to check me into places. Why have FB if they can't do anything and you can't do anything?
