My eldest son used to sleep till around 7:30-8:00am, he's been in his big boy bed since just before his second birthday. he's (touch wood) going to bed fine. but no matter what time i put him dowm to bed he is now waking up between 4:30-5:00am... he doesn't nap in the day and useually goes to bed between 7:00-8:00pm... has anyone else exsperienced a sudden change in their toddlers sleeping pattern?? and do you have any suggestiona as to why...or how i can get him back into his old sleeping pattern??

his bedroom is at the back of the house and both sets of neighbours are old age pensioners... so no noise...i'm totally baffled. as he is still going down to bed his usual time and going down without a problem...he just seems to have decided to wake up earlier and i can not fathom why?? :'(

i miss my sleep lol

yeah my younger boy went from keeping normal hours to being a night owl.

We've never been able to change that. He is STILL a night owl.

But i agree with laura - get the blackout curtains - see if those will help.

Huh I thought of something.... any chance there is a noisy neighbor outside his window? Someone starting a car? Slamming a door as they rush off to work?

He is in a toddler bed...one side is against the wall and he doesn't have a guard on the other side. Plus as far as i know he's not falling out, cause if he was i'm sure he'd make it known lol i'm just totally baffled. Oh another thing.. he has started going into his draws and pulling out ALL of his clothes and spreading them all over his room i've tried draw locks but the lil bugger has figured out how to get into them.. help lol

When my daughter (2) started waking up at 3:30 - 4 am (bedtime is 8 pm) I tried everything I could think of to get her to sleep longer. (dark curtains, protein shake before bed to keep her full in case she was 'hungry', night lights, lack of night lights, music, no music, white noise....all of it)

And kick me in the ass but the one thing that I finally figured out was that she was simply too big for her 'toddler bed' she kept smacking her elbows off the tops of the guard railings, or waking up when her leg 'fell off' the bed. I took down the toddler bed and put the mattress on the floor. She sleeps....well...like a baby now, and I'm sure she takes after me, because I'd sleep in if I could...... but now I have ot go in and wake her up in the mornings.

(she's 2 & 1/2)

(she now has a full sized mattress, but that's besides the point).

I bought really thick, heavy "black out" curtains for my son...it added a full hour of sleep in the mornings :)
