I have a question and I don't feel like wading through the ocean of idiots on the welcome page to find an intelligent answer. So, here it is...

Tonight after her bath I was cleaning my daughter's ears. She has ear tubes, so I'm always careful. Anyway, while cleaning her ears she jumped at some point and then she started crying. I pulled the q-tip out and a large gob of wax came with it. I looked in her ear and it would appear that I managed to knock the ear tube loose from the drum. It's just kind of hanging out in the ear now and I'm not worried about it doing anything harmful to her...but I don't know if I should expect her to need a new one? Any words of wisdom, ladies?

How long has this set been in? Tubes should be in for a year and them coming out sooner may cause issues. She might end up needing another set if they come out too soon.

I'd schedule an appointment with her ENT.

I'm surprised you used a q-tip in her ear. I was told to not insert anything into my kids ears until the tubes had fallen out, only clean what I could see outside.

If it has come fully out of her ear drum (as it kind of sounds like) and it doesn't work it's way out. She may need to go to her regular doctor and have them remove it. She doesn't need to be put under or anything if it is like this. Sometimes they get stuck. It happened to my daughter, it really bugged her so her doctor used long thin tweezers to reach in and grab it. No big deal.

Maybe the wax that you pulled out was holding it in? I would just call her Dr in the morning and ask or take her to immediate care or something if its hurting her and you think it will do something to her ears! Good luck!

This is her second set so far. I'm not worried about them falling out, really...just the fact that I KNOCKED it out has me a little worried. :/

When my son had his tubes put in, the ENT said that they would eventually come out. He said that every kid is different in whether or not they need to be placed again or not. As I understood, the first time could correct the issue and they are not needed after they come out. With other kids, they end up having the procedure over and over again. I wouldn't freak about it. I'd say wait until Monday, phone the ENT and let them know what happened. They may want to see her or they may just say wait it out and see if she has any problems...

That's all I've got! :)

I had tubes put in twice when I was a kid. I actually remember the second time it was done. My mom just brought me back to the doc and they put in the new ones. Of course that was in the early 80's so....
