not a debate: prayers needed

Even though I don't believe in a god who would do this to a newborn baby, prayers, well-wishes, healing vibes of any kind are needed for me and my little girl...

My 3 week old daughter Eva has been in the hospital since Tuesday night with what started out as a fever and turned into a urinary tract infection... Unfortunately she also has something called ESBL, which is a bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics, so treatment has been difficult. She's now being treated with a serious antibiotic that could be toxic, especially in such a young infant, so it's been tough on the family. We will be in the hospital until at least Friday the 19th. Please say a prayer for us that she heals, I am so worried, and can't sleep for fear something might happen to her while I'm sleeping. Any good thoughts are welcome. thanks.

Just an update everyone... We are going home in 2 hours :)

Evas infection is gone, but shell be on oral antibiotics for awhile to prevent further infections until the specialist has a course of action (we don't seehim until December 20).

Eva has done great, she's a wonderful, happy baby and healthy in every other way.

Thank you all for your thoughts!!

Joanna, it's nothing you've done. I'm glad they've got a diagnosis finally. Still praying for a speedy recovery. Hang in there and if you feel the need to scream, go do it, just don't blame yourself! :)

yeah it can be genetic, but no one in my family has it that we know of.

Well at least you have a diagnosis now, and they can start appropriate treatment. Is it a genetic thing?

We now know why Eva has this infection... She has something called Vesicoureteral reflux, where urine goes up to her kidneys instead of draining completely from her bladder. Have to see a urologist soon. One side is not so bad, but the other side is a high grade so she may need surgery on that kidney/ureter when she's a bit older.

Now more than ever I'm questioning if something I did caused this... Can't stop crying. Ugh I just want to scream!

Editted to add: Off topic, but my newest niece's name is Eva, after my grandmother. Love the name! :)

Thank you everyone :)

Eva is a champ, you wouldn't know anything is wrong from looking at her.

Good news is that her antibiotic dosages are showing to be non-toxic, so that's a little less to worry about. Looks like the prayers are working :)

I will keep your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope it's not too intrusive, but I read this and immediatelly called my dad (he's a pastor) and put your family on the prayer chain (I put you guys on it as Joanna, Eva, and family - no last names because I thought it might bee too intrusive). By morning almost the whole church will be praying for you guys. :)

::HUGS::
