FacebookTweetCalifornia will yank the medical license of the Beverly Hills fertility doctor who implanted 12 embryos into "Octomom" Nadya Suleman three years ago.

Dr. Michael Kamrava will lose his license effective July 1, said the state Medical Board, in a decision more severe than an administrative law judge's recommendation that Kamrava get probation for five years.

At a hearing last year, Kamrava apologized for implanting the embryos into Suleman instead of referring the 33-year-old unemployed single mother of six to a mental-health evaluation.

The board found that Kamrava "did not exercise sound judgment" in treating Suleman and two other patients – a 48-year-old who had complications after becoming pregnant with quadruplets and a 42-year-old who contracted ovarian cancer after fertility treatments.

The board found that Kamrava "committed gross negligence, repeated negligent acts, and incompetence."

Kamrava's attorneys had argued that Suleman could have terminated some of the fetuses, that the negative publicity surrounding the Octomom case is a sufficient deterrent, and that Kamrava had learned his lesson.

I completely agree with him losing his license! He is the doctor, he knew the risks to both the mother and the babies if she had high order multiples. He had the right and the responsiblity to refuse to implant that many embryos or to refuse to treat her altogether. What if she had died as a result of carrying such a high risk pregnancy? I'm sure he'd be sued for malpractice for allowing it to happen!

He's not the only though, there are plenty of other doctors who have lost their license for the same thing. That is why there was a law that was passed about how many embryo's you can try to implant. This is just one story that made it into the news because all the babies made it (which is rare) and then because everyone found out that she already had 6 kids.

Part of a doctor's job is to make sure their patient is mentally stable before giving them any kind of treatments. This guy has dropped the ball, several times.

Personally, I think that any doctor who shows such an egregious lack of judgment and common sense should not be allowed to practice.

You can't just waltz into a doctor's office and demand what you want. They're bound by ethical and professional standards. So I can't just go in and ask for a laundry list of drugs if I don't have the medical condition justifying them. And any doctor who DID give me those drugs, just because I'd asked for them, would be grossly negligent and should rightly lose his license.

This is similar in scope.

Sorry, but yeah...he showed an absolute disregard for human life and had no business being a doctor in ANY field.

I agree with Sharon, that it's probably only happening because of the press, but it IS his fault. As a Dr, he isn't forced to do what the patient requests - he made that choice all on his own. He is at fault.

I agree with the decision. It has been proven that she has an addiction to having children. But that is a whole nother thread.
It would not have been debated if she had been with the father and the father was supporting the household. He knew she lived alone and could hardly provide for the ones she already had. So for him to implant 12 more at the same time was ethically wrong. He was only concerned about getting his bank account larger. Yes he could have terminated some of the embryos but then this would be the debates that she was a murderer how dare her do that.
Bottomline he is the Specialist and was fully aware of the fact that she was mentally unstable and did absolutly nothing to help her. Just made sure that he could have the title that he was the first fertillity specialist to successfully create and deliver 8 babies at once.

This is no different then a doctore perscribing multiple perscription and the person overdoses because the doctor was getting paid a couple million a year. It isn't any different.
I do hope that she never gets pregnant again and I do think she should just have everything removed so there is absolutly no chance of it happening.

I'm not disputing that he's a screw up. But why is he the only one being held to this standard?

Could you imagine if he chose plastic surgery as his new specialty??? Who CARES if it's your tenth nose job...I'm sure it'll be fine...that'll be $5000. Thank you. Oh...you're anorexic and you want lipo? that'll be $3000, thank you.

A profit based system is resulting in unethical behaviour? I'm shocked! I actually thought he lost his license years ago.

Do you know how many fertility doctors a definition like that would wipe out?

Maybe they need to be wiped out, but I'd hate to see you in a room full of their patients.

Seriously? The patient should be held accountable, not the doctor? I'm sorry that's utter bullshit.
He's the one with the license, he's the one in charge, he's the one with knowledge. It's not the fact that this is a high profile case that he's lost his license, it's because of his negligence to begin with and in turn THAT made it a a high profile case . This is not his first offense either.

I think it is crap. Not smart yes but ultimately the blame should be on Octomom not the doctor. Do you know how many people get multiple embryos implanted all the time. Actually a close friend of mine just got 6 embryos implanted 21mo's ago. 3 took, 3 didn't she ended up with triplets but could have easily ended up with sextuplets. That doctor isn't in jeopardy of losing his license it is only because it ended up being so high profile.

I think thats bullshit. Is he stupid? yeah. and I've read nightmare stories on "trying to conceive" boards that put the 3 examples of Kamravas' incompetence to shame.

The only reason why they're doing this to him is because of the press the octowhore has gotten.

Did he need to lose his license? No. But they should have restricted him from this field and forced him to requalify in another field. Those costs alone and the loss of income and prestige would have been punishment enough. & maybe pay partial child support for all the retarded babies he helped nadia create. I still feel an overwhelming urge to bitch slap her into the next universe.

I know that field has "guidelines." But is that enough? Does there need to be a law regarding this? I'm not sure. I'm uncomfortable with that sort of strict definition and ultimate restriction on a woman's attempts to have a baby.

He did need to be disciplined but losing his license? I dunno.

What I find interesting? Is the law of the medical community seems to think octowhore is mentally deficient and needs help but our government doesn't think so and won't force her to get help.

Well, it sets good precedence for any other Dr's who take this stuff lightly and just want their cash in hand. It's amazing that these kind of people can BE doctors really.
