Pop Culture- Part II

What was your first car? Did you fail any part of the driver's test or written test? Did you have any 'rules' about driving? (number of passengers, how far you were allowed to drive, curfew to bring the car home)

My first car was a 1974 Chevy Monte Carlo. My grandma was the original owner and she kept the car in perfectly mint condition...until she passed it down to the my brother in 1986. Then it got beat up quite a bit. Then the car was passed down to me in 1990. I was technically not allowed to have more than 6 people in the car, but I usually bent that rule! I was told not to drive too far away because the car broke down often. And, it did while I was down the shore. I also remember driving into NYC and parkin gin Port Authority. Then the battery died-and I was in tears trying to find someone with jumper cables. For my 18th b-day, I got jumper cables. I failed the road test once-failed everything on the test! The 2nd time I passed with flying colors and can perfectly parallel park.

My first car was a silver 1989 Ford Escort station wagon. rofl. I called her Big Silver. My parents got it for me so I could drive my brother and I to school after they split up and dad left town. Yay divorce! It was a station wagon because my job was keyboardist in a jazz combo so I had a lot of equipment to haul to work.

I had no rules because I was a responsible kid. I often had a vehicle full of people, was allowed to drive down to Victoria and even over to Vancouver (including a ferry trip!) or wherever else I needed to go. I had no curfew. As I say, I was very trustworthy. The only real rule was that I had to make sure my brother had a ride to all his activities throughout the week. Small price to pay I guess.

Passed the written and driving test on the first try. I took a long time to do the driving one though. I was nervous about highway driving, which is hilarious because there wasn't even a real highway where I lived.

This kind of sucks to think about. I haven't been able to drive in 8 years. :( Those were the good old days I guess. Just have to pop out one more kid and then I can drive again. I have to start at the beginning though and take all the tests again. HA.

I got my license when i was 7 after failing twice. First failure? I ran a stop sign in the parking lot of the DMV! Second failure? I almost ran over a turtle. The driving instructor hopped out to save it and i didn't brake or put the car in park..I rolled just a little. I am not sure why i failed on that one. Still confused on that...lol!!

First car was a 1999 Saturn that I had one payment left on (after 5 years of making payments) and it promptly blew up. Yes...it caught fire somehow and went kaboom. Bye bye car that was almost paid off... :(

95 Camaro Convertible. I loved that car. I loved the next camaro even more though, It had been a cop car so it had the corvette engine..... I had fun with that car. Until some asshat ran a stop sign and murdered it. *sigh* RIP corvaro.

I passed the drivers test the first time. I didn't really have any limitations as far as curfew or passengers. I kind of graduated into adulthood when I got a car. Granted, they wanted to know where I was if I was going to be out late. I usually came in around 3 am, because weird things happen when I'm out later than 3 am.

Ok…no one laugh but I didn’t get my license until I was 20…. Because I always took the city bus…so there was no need…

It took me 3times on the 4th I got it right…no laughing :-p…I didn’t study well and tried the skimming technique all the times…so the last time I finally sat down to read the book.

Anyway my first car after I got my license was a 89Acura Legend…I still have it and apparently it’s a good car, because I have lots of offers on it…it sits in our driveway..in the carport…don’t know what I will do with it..But I don’t want to sale it or give it away..

It was embarrassing to drive because it’s loud and when it rained (Which it does often here in Seattle) the roof would leak on the driver and passenger…glad those days are over with.

i passed my driver's test on the first try when i was 16.... my first car was a $800 1981 buick regal and i LOVED it, most comfortable car i have ever driven!!!!! the only thing i didn't like about it was that it did not go above 50 uphill.... i had a curfew, and i had to have a job in order to have a car those were the rules. paid for my own gas, insurance and maintenance

My first car was a 1980 Dodge Omni. I paid for it myself when I was 16. I still see them on the road from time to time and they always make me laugh. After about a month, it stopped going into any gear higher than 2nd and then not long after that the reverse quit too. I used to have to park way out in BFE in parking lots so that I didn't have to back out of the parking space. And if I did have to back out, I'd have to leave my driver's door open and use my foot to scoot the car backwards...it was that light lol

I got my learner's permit when I was 15. There was no test for that; I just wasn't allowed to drive past sunset and anytime I drove a car I had to have a licensed driver over the age of 18 in the car with me. When I was in 10th grade I took Driver's Ed in school and passed (with flying colors, I might add :). They gave us a piece of paper to take to the DMV. I got my license with no test, because I had just taken an entire semester of classes. I had no curfew because I was emancipated and had my own apartment so I made the rules. I was never home early though, because I always worked late.

I didn't get my official license until I was 18 although I had my permit at 15. So, I didn't have too many rules when I was finally able to drive on my own

My first car was an official POS. 1991 Chevy Cavalier. I like the car just not THAT car. I would hit the gas and it would slow down!!! It was a death trap.

I passed on the first try but I was only one missed question away from failing. I'm bad under pressure and I wanted it SOOO bad

I just got my license this past summer, go me! I passed on the first try, but needed to try my parallel parking twice. My first (and current lol) car is a 1990 Firefly. It's a piece of shit car and the car seats barely fit in it, but it gets us where we gotta go.
