Jacinta, there are more symptoms to psychosis than just delusions. If that were the case than someone experiencing these "negative influences" would still behave like themselves. The delusions usually go beyond just hearing voices and having halucinations. If you were talking to a person with psychosis they may take what you say out of context, take what you say literally... like in my brother's case for example: if he got in a fight with someone and they said: "You're dead buddy!" What we would take as an idle threat among teen boys my brother would take it literally that this person was going to kill him.
Hope this makes sense. :/

is there a possibility that some one labelled psychotic could just be seeing/hearing a more negative influence..... that is directing its energy at them only because perhaps they are vunerable?

There are plenty of completely 'normal' people who believe in spirits. I think in a lot of cases it's a comfort to them if they have had loved ones pass away.

I do think there's alot we don't understand so I don't rule out the possibility.

My brother suffers from psychosis, paranoid skitzophrenia and is bi-polar. When he was 7 or 8 he started believing he was psychic and he could talk to animals and spirits as well as predict the future. At first we thought it was normal childhood make believe until he was later in life diagnosed with psychosis. The beliefs also continued into adulthood. So in his case it was obviously to do with his psychosis.

Blind faith or believing in something we can't see alone does not determine someone is suffering from psychosis. If that were the case everyone in the world who is religious is psychotic.

@Stephanie yea when we did live close to people i could pick up conversations lol but not since we moved we dont like close to anyone well close enough to hear! My grandparents owned a house not to far from ours now (grandparents are dead my aunt owns it now) but several people died/killed on the land When we were younger (about 16) I would go over there to spend the night and you could hear someone banging on all sides of the house at once, me and my friends took my grandparents German shepherds out to investigate (they were guard dogs very aggressive if told to sick) we went all over the place looking and as we were walking back to the house we could hear the banging again so we ran up to the house and you could see the indentions of where the house was being hit but there was NO one there the dogs ran and hid under the porch. The other thing was my other grandma had a tailor on my great grandmas land well we would hear screaming like someone being hurt in her tailor and we would go to see and the whole place was trashed and what looked like blood was all over her bed and the sheets messed up (we thought someone really broke in and got hurt BUT this happened 4 more times after periodically. Things like this happened ALL the time until my grandma (that owned the house died) When my grandmother lived in that trailer my aunt was murdered by a man who tried to rob her and she REFUSED to give him her money (it was for chrismtas) so he shot and killed her and got away my grandmother said she woke up one night and saw my aunt at the end of her bed and she told her the name of the killer and my grandma went to the police and ended up finding this man and come to find out it was in fact the man who killed her! After seeing all these things i def believe it still startles me when i see or hear things tho luckily i haven't in a while :)

I love this subject! When I lived in Utah the house we moved into when we first got married was 'occupied'. My dog would run through the house yelping and kind of 'talking' leaving a trail of poo along the way as if he was running from something that was terrorizing him. Several times I could hear very heavy foot steps at the same time, not the kind made by a Chihuahua. The overall feel of that house was pure evil. It was so bad that I never even unpacked- I just wanted out. The kitchen cabinets would open and close by themselves and I could hear voices and movement downstairs, which was an unoccupied basement apartment. One day I was doing laundry and folded my scrubs and put them on top of the dryer, went back in and they were nowhere to be found. I asked my husband if he look my work clothes and he said no, he hasnt been in the laundry room. There was a pile of dirty clothes on the floor and when I wen to put more clothes in the washer I found my scrubs, still neatly folded, on the very bottom of the pile.
My mother told me when I was a baby I was asleep on the couch and she looked over and saw me standing beside myself, as if my spirit had left my body, and was looking at myself and the 'spirit baby' turned to my mom and smiled then disappeared.
@Nikkole- I'd loved to hear your stories! Please tell!
With the baby monitor they can pick up radio waves so you can hear phone conversations and things like that through them sometimes but if you lived far away from other people I guess that wouldn't have been the cause.

Ha! Not that I think your crazy at all but study psychology doesn't prove your not. In fact, my aunt is a well respected shrink and she is pretty nuts. She told me that many people go into the profession, including herself, to try to figure themselves out.

I have had numerous experiences with spirits. There are two in my parents house, my dad and i have given the exact same description of them, that cannot be a coinsedence! and im defiantly not crazy...in fact im studying psychology haha

I personally think it's all crap and that people read into things what they want to see/hear.

thankyou jennifer- that did make sense. i apologize for generalizing. i'm just curious about whether its possible that people with any kind of mental illness that is deemed psychotic, is maybe on some other level more able to see/hear spirits due to chemical imbalance etc

both, ihave often doubted the tv and big group psychics are a bit of a sham they play on the emotions of the crowd and are probally wonderful at body language etc, but it gives people a sence of peace so as long as are not ripping off people too bad then it isn't too big a problem

so the difference is, when people can understand and act appropriately to the 'phenomenon' they are psychic or at the very least still sane..... but if they are being told to do negative things or no one else can see/hear what they can, or they are not reacting well to it, they are psychotic?

My cousin was at spiritual church the other day and the lady who runs it asked the man behind her "Do you know Mark who recently passed away ? " He said no but my cousin said that's my uncle ( my Dad ) She said " well he is here he just wants to say hello and that everything is ok "
She hadn't been in years and no one there knew of what had happened to my dad not to mention it was a Tongan church so " Mark " is a very uncommon name .....I thought that was pretty cool !!

I think both! My friends mom has her own bussiness and they investigate homes for people and some of the things i have see them catch is just INSANE! At my house i HATE being here alone if i am with my kids we stay in my bed room (like that will help haha) Ive had my cabinet doors in the kitchen slam shut, when my son slept in his own room i would hear a conversation going on OVER the monitor and i dont live real close to neighbors, we had a baby swing up when my daughter was first born and this thing you had to turn the nob till it clicked on and one day me my son and daughter were on the couch and it turned on by its self and was on full speed i ran to my room and came back about an hour later and it was off! I KNOW I KNOW i sound crazy but my mother has ALWAYS said she has seen things ever since she was little! One night her bedroom used to be right next to mine and i could hear EVERYTHING going on in her room (THIN walls lol) but her my step dad and my son were sleeping in there everyone else was asleep i hear her bedroom door open and someone walking around in her room i hear her yell to get out NOW (she thought it was one of my sisters they were not home at the time) and then she saw this shadow walk from the end of her bed out the door her and my son saw this he told me about the scary man the next day! She ended up callig my phone asking if i went in her room i said no and YEA that was that!! Something is always happening at my house i HATE to watch scary movies by myself now lol! BUT I do feel that your mind can make up things sometimes especially when you are scared but i DO believe in spirits i have a ton more stories but i wont bore you all :)

I agree with the possibility of both. I can't speculate what is really out there-we'll never know except for the off chance of it being somehow explained when we die instead of it all just going black (and then that's it folks). Who knows what the things people think of as spirits or ghost, what they actually are. I sure don't.

Like everyone else, I've lived in places that had a presence. I've even had some weird experiences with my daughter, her talking to someone in her crib and a mirror flying off our bedroom door in the middle of the night...still I don't know what it was all about. I guess some people might call that a ghost but I really don't know.

Then, I'm sure there are people out there who can truly see things that are going to happen. I just think there is probably a medical explanation that we are unaware of as of yet.

Both. I believe there are spirits around us (whether they may be angels, demons, or otherwise.) I've had personal experiences. I even had to have my home blessed b/c it got so bad here. I'm talking pics flying off walls across the room. The sound of something dragging itself down the hallway and you look and can still hear it but nothing is there. That's only a little part of what went on. I know it sounds crazy and if it didn't happen to me personally I wouldn't have believed it. Wild imagination? Maybe but if thats the case then friends that were here when that was going on have the same imagination. I have no logical explanation for what happened so I do believe in spirits.

Both.
I believe that when someone close to you dies, your brain can create an image of that person in order to ease the grieving process. I think it is a natural automatic response for some people, a defensive measure to aid in the trauma to ones psyche due to a loss of a loved one.
However that said, I do believe there is a tremendous amount we do not know about the afterlife (all of it really.)
So I do not discount the idea that there may be spiritual beings around us. I have had my share of "unexplained" occurrences that left me wondering after exploring all scientific explanations.
I don't think that anyone can say for sure what happens when we die.
