Public Service Announcement (not a debate)

Long story short- I had a severe allergic reaction to a prescribed medication. I stopped taking it, and researched the side effects. One side effect was Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. I *may* have a mild form of this and have almost all of the symptons. Basically, extreme chapped/cracked/bleeding lips, skin shedding on the lips/mouth, blisters on, around mouth, inflamed mucous linings, etc. So, in relief for my lips over the past 8 weeks, I have tried:

Blistex, Neosporin-regular & lip therapy, Hydrocortizone, plain old Vaseline, Aquaphor, Carmax, Burt's Bees, and Chapstick. I've also split open vitamin E capsules and rubbed them on my lips. A sticky mess! My lips still crack, peel, bleed.

On one side effect website, someone suggested LANISOH LANOLIN....the breast nipple cream! So at 8 pm last night I ran to the store and bought a large tube! I smothered it all around my lips & mouth. For the 1st time in 8 weeks, I woke up without cracked and bloody lips! So that's my public service announcement-try Lanisoh as a 1st choice for chapped lips!!!

I only use nipple cream on my lips, it's awesome. When I was breast feeding I tried it because I didn't have any lip balm. I also get dermatitis on my hands and my skin cracks which is really painful, nipple cream is the best thing I have found to treat it.

AGREED!! I have been using Lansinoh for my son who has a lick rash habit. I find it stops him licking because it doesn't taste so good and if I put it on at matter how bad his lick rash the morning it is completely gone!!

Well even though my lips are literally still "on fire" and rubbing raw, the lanolin has still brought more relief than the other products. Right now, I have clown lips. Bright red and swollen, with shedding skin and tiny blisters around the mouth and chapped skin. Haven't kissed hubbb in over a month :-(

I don't know the brand, but I find both lanolin AND paw paw ointment great for chapped lips. But I use paw paw ointment for everything :P

Thanks barb! The medication was Flucanazole and I was taking it for Valley Fever. It is a fungal infection of the lungs. I was taking the med for about 8 weeks. Once I stopped taking it, my right hearing was restored and my nasal cavities opened. But the lips....horrible! I will be seeing a lung specialist in 10 days, and I am now very very leary of any prescribed med. If yo uGoogle pics of SJS, it looks very extreme. That's why I said I *may* have it, because the mild pics, it's what I look like now. Plus I am not a doctor that can diagnose it, but simply am goin gon testimony of other patients who had Flucanazole side effects. But so far, between last night and this morning, the Lanisoh has brought welcome relief!

Oh Sharon, i'm so sorry you are having to go through this. What is the medication you were taking that caused this?

I recently quit taking Topamax because i found out from the website, (not where i had checked before taking it) that my shortness of breath, dizziness, and numbness in my fingers and toes were all serious side effects.
