Read an article in a girly magazine a few days ago that talked about women who get too drunk and make themselves throw up in order to avoid getting sick and hangovers.

Well.... what do we think?

It's silly. Goodness knows I've had my share of hangovers, and being sick the night before or the morning after made no difference.

The only time I could justify someone making themselves be sick is if they're at that point where they've been thisfreakingclose to puking for awhile, and are just miserable, and so make themselves sick just to get it over with and hopefully start feeling better. I did that a couple of times when younger.

Obviously, being older and wiser (ahem), I now see how silly it is to drink to the point of being sick.

My son is 19 months and I haven't been drunk to the point of having a hangover since before I was pregnant with him. However I'll have about 3 drinks a few times a week, just to the point where I feel it, but not to overdue it, because who wants to take care of a toddler while hungover? Not me! Anyway, I will have to admit that I have thrown up to avoid hangover, then I drink tons of water and pop Advil before bed. I don't know if that is why I don't get one or if it is because I don't drink that much. Yes I know it is wrong and it's not something I do every time. It was more like back in my younger days that I did that.

It is totally expected! I thought turning 25 was a good enough reason, you know being a quater of a century and and all but i think 30 is an even better reason. I'm so happy their father is finally taking them for the whole weekend.

Good plan Shannen lol. I can't imagine driving after a huge night. My plan is to be child-free until late the next day, so I can wallow in self-pity if I get hit with the hangover from hell (which I probably will - but it's my 30th, so it's expected right? lol).

I could have used a night of good ol' drunken debauchery for my 30th in February, but I was 9 months pregnant, so I had to settle for diet coke and an early bedtime. Guess I'll have to really whoop it up for my 40th!

[deleted account]

Erin, I'll be in Newy celebrating my Birthday on the same weekend as your birthday! Although as i have lots of driving and last weekend was more then enough to remind me why i don't really drink often i'll be taking it easy and just enjoying myself with good friends!

Oh I've definitely done this in my younger days. You get to a point where the only way you can get any relief from the self-inflicted hell you find yourself in is to be vomit. Yeah, I liked a drink in my pre-mummy days lol. The sickness and all-day hangover never put me off.

Now? Forget it. My daughter is almost 2.5yo and I have only been drunk twice since then. Both times I regretted it almost immediately. So unless it is a super special occasion (like my 30th coming up), I stick to a few champagnes and call it a night. I'm too old for that shit.

I think it is pointless the alcohol is already in the bloodstream they are just throwing up liquid and causing more of a headache with the pressure the coughing is causing .

Thinking back to my drinking days, I never was good at knowing when to stop...the goal was always to get as tipsy as possible without feeling like shit...but before I knew it my really good buzz had given way to hugging the toilet in the last stall while kneeling in damp toilet paper. Of course, even at this point, I still didn't know when to stop. I'd usually pop a mint, wipe off the smeared mascara, and order another cherry whiskey and coke! I usually didn't have to make myself puke...that happened all on it's own, unfortunately.

Looking back, I think I was a total idiot, but I did it again every weekend, so it must have been worth it at the time! God, I hope my kids don't turn out like me!

Yeah, I don't miss the old college days. Hangovers are not worth it for me. I did get drunk on New Year's Day night though ( I know, it's supposed to be the night before, lol) for the first time in at least 5 years. I felt terrible the next day, although I didn't puke. It reminded me of all the reasons I stopped behaving like that. I'll admit it was fun while it lasted though. My daughter was at gran & grandpa's, the hubby was at his niece's and my girlfriends were spending the night. It was a good time....maybe I should have tried the puking thing....hmm.... j/k!

I told my boyfriend, because we are going to have 2 boys (come Sept) I said when they hit 2 and 3 man, I'm going to be a lush.

Because I can just see it now... in 2 years time.... I'll be home, they'll be jumping on furniture and me not being able to stop it or not caring to for whatever reason

if that is what happens.... I'm so drinking...... every day. we can go to the store when bf gets home. don't care. lol
It's how I've kept my sanity in the past until I can work through it on my own again.

I'm not sure i should admit this but i was that drunk this past weekend. Although i did not and have never made myself puke for any reason. I just can't do it. Only reason i got that drunk and surprisingly enjoyed myself is because i didn't have my kids and wasn't going to be looking after them until the day after the hangover. Plus it's been over 5 years since i have been that drunk and over 2 years since i was last even tipsy.

Lol.. what a waste of good alcohol.. Just makes me think of my younger and stupider days. I did a lot of binge drinking, usually stragith liquor - cause it was quicker, and it took me WAAY too long to outgrow the habit. Well, I think it's just stupid. A hangover is a hangover and they all feel like the end of the world. How about just learning to drink responsibly?

[deleted account]

I've never been that drunk. Probably because I hate throwing up. And I was always the 'responsible' one that got stuck being the DD. Woot, I was so not a big party girl.

I think if you drink too much then you should deal with the hangover like a big girl would! :) AND if you're making yourself throw up then you're still getting sick right?

I've done it when i had a stomach/intestinal bug, but not cause i was too drunk, just cause i knew i would feel better.

Nichole I totally agree. Sometimes you just have to make yourself puke to feel better. But I've never noticed a difference in how I felt in the mornings. And since it's been like 5 years since I've drank myself to the point of puking, I'm probably not going to test this theory LOL

Gawd, I don't miss the binge drinking of my late teens and early twenties. I did make myself gag to throw up but not to avoid a hangover. Like others have said it was because I felt like i was going to throw up anyways. I use to get massive hangovers, I don't even know how I functioned the day after and sometimes work the following day. :P

Nope don't miss it. I get a hangover after 3 drinks. I never found throwing up the night before made a lick of difference in how awful I felt the next day.

Avoid getting too drunk? ummm don't drink too much. lol

I don't know, but it has made me feel better in the past as I have done it? I get that 'gonna throw up any minute now' thing ALL night. So if I drink water and puke, it goes away. No more spins, no more dry heaves. Weird I know. Just never thought I'd see it as a magazine topic, so I thought I'd put it in here.

That is totally a good/bad scenario for you Heather. Luckily you can still drink some? I feel the same way. I remember the first time I drank beer I was burping foam off of HALF a bud lite! Are you kidding? It took me a lot of margaritas and years to be able to handle 3 drinks. Then once I drank 2 Sparks in an hour in 120 degree weather and I've never been sicker in my LIFE. So I limited to 2, period. Switched to hanging with the Captain :D but once I got pregnant and quit drinking for a whole year before getting pregnant again this time..... I'm amazed at how sick I feel drinking. I can't handle more than 1 glass now either

I swear to God, two sips and I am tipsy. Ever since my fibromyalgia started, I can't drink at all. I have one glass of white wine (must be white) and I'm definitely maxed and even that I only do maybe twice a year. Turns out getting sick can be good for some things because it sure helped me realize how great it is to not be wasted.

Me too Heather. I can't handle more than 2-3 of certain drinks before I'm over the edge, total spins, dry heaves and on the roller coaster ride to puking..... Those sugar wine cooler mixed drinks are the worst. Like mikes hard lemonade? argasdfg ewww instant death

I do not miss drinking AT ALL. I mean drinking drinking. Not a glass of wine or one beer. When your options are make yourself throw up or a hangover because of something you chose to do for FUN, you really have to question your sanity. Not trying to be overly judgmental here. I was insane up until 6 years ago. Now I don't even know what I was thinking.
