Babies under 6 months old can't digest anything other than breast milk or formula. Infant cereals are, basically, "fillers" anyways. They hold little nutritional value, and can fill babies up so much that there's no room left for the good stuff. Keep feeding that baby all the breast milk/formula he wants. =]

Oh, please, do not give your 5 week old anything but formula (or breast milk). Their tummies are way too underdeveloped for anything else. It could seriously hurt them. Just give him as much formula (breast milk) as required to fulfill him.

My doc told me at his 4 month we could start. And that's the youngest you should feed them from everything that I've read/heard. I've also heard putting it in their bottle could be a choking hazard. If they aren't able to eat it from a spoon I would say they're probably too young to eat it at all. But 50 years ago was a whole different way of thinking. My grandma gave my dad cereal and banana as a newborn. And he's fine. Talk to your doc.

No. he is too young. His tummy is not ready for anything other than breastmilk or formula, and you could be setting him up for a lifetime of stomach/digestion problems. Most babies are not ready for anything else until 6 months old. It's okay that he drinks a lot - continue with that.
