This isn't for debate, not for recommendations, or for support (well I guess the latter is sorta - lol). I did make some promises to a few people about letting everyone know when Mina arrived... so I'm a bit late as she'll be a week old tomorrow. Sorry for the lateness, we came home on Friday, the 2nd, and we've been settling into a routine since. Hubby has been going to the store to pick up items that we either didn't think of, or just decided we needed now. lol. Here's the story of her arrival...

Mina was born on June 30th at 3:59 pm, she is 6lb 9oz and 19inches long. She's a perfectly healthy (so far very happy!) little girl.

The inducement went well from what I've heard about others' experiences. We went in at 7a.m., they started the pitocin (sp?) at 9a.m., and they had to back off a bit because the contractions were as bad as the ones I was having the day that I went in to L&D (when they said i wasn't having active labor... ha!). I went from 2 cm to 4 cm from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (might've been 11:30). By Noon I finally decided to quit trying to bear through the tears (and stop trying to be super woman) and asked for an epidural. Of course, the anesthesiologist was tending to an emergency with someone else. With the HUGE hospital we have, we only have ONE freaking anesthesiologist, go figure.

He finally came in at 12:45 p.m., I got the epidural and the contractions were still awful through it about an hour later. He came in, checked on me, said that it would likely be hours before I delivered and gave me more medication. Whoops.

The doc came in and checked me again at 2:00 p.m. and I was at 8cm, they started setting everything up. Unfortunately from the extra meds, I was jello from the waist down... I could move my legs but I couldn't feel a damn thing except the contractions - and of course not as bad as they were coming but bad enough for them to be painful. By 3:30 I was fully dilated, but I couldn't push every time the way they wanted me too. They wound up having to use the vacuum to get her head out because her heart beat was getting too low, and I wasn't opening up enough to get her out, and I couldn't feel enough to push the way I needed too.

A few stitches later - for me, and a beautiful little girl was laying in my arms. She's got the blondest hair ever, lots in the back not so much on top just yet. She has a little bit of a mark on the top of her head from the vacuum, but not much. A strawberry (stork bite) between her eyes. She sleeps just like her Daddy does. The only odd thing was the knot that was in her cord, thankfully it was very loose or it could've caused some problems. So far we're doing great. :)

Congratulations Suzette! So glad to hear everything went (mostly) well and easy.......... You will find that what some say is "normal" is not normal for others. Your little one will find her own speed and style, and eating habits :-) As long as you and your pediatrician are happy, then it's normal. Enjoy every moment of every day. I am pretty sure every mom on here will always remember the miracle of just staring in wonder at their firstborn....... Not that it's been any different with the second (or maybe third etc. for some) but you never forget your first. :-) Keep us updated!

Congratulations to you & your family Suzette! Welcome baby girl! I love the Mina-very pretty and not over-the-top in the world of unique names! Do you pronounce her name "Mee-na" or "Mine-a"? Is there a middle name? Rest up now!

yea, when i went to push him out, his heart rate was dropping a little bit - so they put the heart monitor wire on his head -- but he came out really good. He was a few ounces shy of 6 lbs. -- itty bitty guy - now he's 3 months old already and well well over 10 lbs. :) (wont know for sure for a few weeks at his next checkup)

Thanks Everyone!!! :)

@Veronica, They told me that it only happens in about 1-3% of babies and that more often than not the knots are really tight and cause damage. They told us we were lucky that her knot was really loose and that they induced when they did or it could've become tighter. Thankfully they didn't wait until 42 weeks, just barely over 41 or the doc who did the inducement said she wasn't sure what might have happened. It scared the crap out of me and my mom, not to mention hubby. They said she's healthy, and she's happy, so we're happy! :) I am glad to know that I'm not the only one out there that's had this happen, and that your LO is healthy too!
About the hips, I think I was so tired the other night when I did that that I just wasn't thinking... at least not about anything other than relaxing her. That'll teach me to think more before I just jump. I need to be more careful anyway, especially considering the stitches. It was my "doh!" moment. lol

As for the hip - your hips are still lax from your hormones - it will improve over time, and get back to normal -- take it easy!

Congratulations!!! Glad it all went well, and you and her are healthy and happy :) (My son had a knot in his cord too - it is very weird...)
Take care,
V

Thanks Everyone!!

Tanya, my hips were doing very well... until I did something stupid. LOL.

I was sitting cross legged on the bed, on my husband's side. He was trying to get her calmed down as he was changing a diaper. She wasn't having it. I went to move over to try and take over. I've found that laying her against my chest, I'm guessing it's the heartbeat, calms her greatly. So I went to move, but I didn't uncross my legs first. And I moved too fast, still sitting in the indian style position. (Stupid me!) I don't know what I did to my hip but it hurt like hell. I did that two days ago. Up until today, I was limping like crazy. Now I'm getting back to walking like normal. I felt like I did when she was still in the womb and was lying where she was on my sciatic. I'm guessing it pinched a nerve when I did that but now it's getting better. Thanks for asking!

@Kati, I will definitely keep everyone posted. :) Tomorrow is her one week check up. We find out more about how she's doing, from what I can gather she's right on schedule. She's up to drinking about 2 oz to 2.5 oz already. She's a little piggy with how fast she's going up. I hope that's normal... I've read so many different things about what is and isn't. So we'll find out from the pediatrician tomorrow. :)

Thanks Christa! Right now we're transitioning her from having background noise in the living room, where she sleeps during the day to having quiet time at night in our room in her bassinet. The noise she has in the living room is the a/c running (at the temp the hospital told us) and the television, plus the music and vibration in her bassinet. In the bedroom it's the low hum of the a/c and the music and vibration in her bassinet. I'm thinking she needs other music in the bedroom so we're going to use this mp3 candle that we have, it's got classic rock - which she loved while she was in the womb. I'm hoping that helps. We're trying it tonight. We'll see how that works. We're having a great time figuring out her different cries. LOL. So far we have the gassy cry down. She's gone from an ounce to 2.5 in just a few days, which was fun figuring out that she was still hungry. All in all she's a good baby though, she sleeps fairly well. *knock on wood it stays that way* =)
