Personally, I think it's creepy. For those who think its a good idea... lets wait until a car is driving happily along, sees a hollogram of a kid in the middle of the street and slams on the brakes, so the car behind rear ends him. Then lets ask those people if it was a good idea.

It's okay, Katherine. Different threads open up different conversations, even when it's on the same topic!

Bad, bad, bad idea.. If people get used to seeing children as speed bumps, then even when there is an actual child, they could get run over since people would be used to running over a childlike speed bump. Also, it's very distracting and could probably cause the driver to swerve, causing an accident.

Just a bad idea, IMO.

“It’s a static image. If a driver can’t respond to this appropriately, that person shouldn’t be driving….”

LOL!

I'm sure all the people that get rear ended after slamming on their breaks will love that quip.

Yeah, doesn't sit well with me either. I had the same thought about it causing more accidents than it prevents!

Yikes, that's not far from me. I don't think that's somewhere I want to drive. Good theory, bad execution.

Speed bumps shouldn't be implimented full stop. Average speed camera checks are the way to go. Speed bump slow down emergency service vehicles and I don't want to be burnt alive whilst the fir engine has to slow to a crawl because of some stupid speed bumps. Average speed check cameras will stop people from speeding between cameras as well as at cameras. I this work VERY effectively every day in the UK. They are usually implemented on the motor ways only but can see it being extremely effective and beneficial if in use on every road.

Ya, after seeing the picture and reading a bit of the article, as much as I think the intentions were good...the idea falls way short on the scale of safety and practicality. People should be used to speed bumps by now...they're not a new concept.

Disturbing

So we will become immune to hitting small children with our cars. We will explain to the judge, "I thought it was a speed bump, sorry"

My thought is that if people get used to seeing a child that's really a speed bump, what are they going to think if they see a REAL child?

Your gonna get some idiot whos late for a meeting, think they see one of these new fancy speed bumps, and just keep going, only realising its an actual child when they get a smashed bumper! It is an absolutly ridiculas idea!!

[deleted account]

That is a ridiculous idea, as Jenn said it would cause more accidents with people slamming on brakes and swerving!

I think that's awful. I agree with Jenn, it will probably cause more accidents. If you momentarily think it is real, you could lock up the brakes and cause all sorts of trouble. Dangerous.

....that'll probably cause more accidents than not having the speed bump at all.
