How many of you shampoo your carpets every time your little ones spill something on the carpet?

Hmm. Let me think......Uhh......NO! Lol.
We never ever shampooed our first apartments carpet cuz we had no babies. Our second apartment we shampoos it once' right when DS was a baby. When we moved here it was freshly shampooed so no biggie but beforeDD was born we shampooed it since the dogs and cats had had accidents.
When a spill happens I clean it. This differs depending on what spilled lol. The worst is dog pee. Thank God we don't have a dog anymore! That got soaked up until dryish and then drenched in cleaners, scrubbed, soaked, scrubbe, dried, rinsed, dried. Until it didn't stink. So yeah I sort of hand shampooed it every single time.
Other stuff usually gets a wet wipe scrub and it's good to go.
Baby spit up sometimes, usually, just gets a towel scrub it a bit and move on.
Seriously though DD spits up about 4x a day now at 7 months and when she was littler it was like 12x a day no fooling. No freaking way I shampooed my carpets that much.
I don't even own a shampooed, we borrowed my MILs the few times we have needed it. But when we get a house I'll be caring for the carpets a LOT more then here. Here they have to be sanitary, once it's MY house it will be more important.

I took out the carpet and replaced it with tile downstairs and linoleum upstairs. No shampooing for me!

Wow I'm amazed how many people shampoo their carpets regularly, like once a week/fortnight. We've been here for 8 months and I've never shampoo'd it. It's sporting a berry stain, yellow crayon and a few burns from the fire. Unless it's food/body liquids I'm not too fussed. It was old when we moved in, I figure I'll wash it eventually and then replace it when I can't stand it any more!

I like carpet :) I spend a lot of time on the floor with the kids and with babies crawling and falling and trying to stand the traction and cush is nice. Then again- I don't own a house so idk if it's going to be bad once it's my carpet I have to maintain long term.

dyan try the swiffer system. Makes my year! the only really bad spot is in the dining room since a lot of my daughters meals still end up on the floor. then the dogs lick the floor. then they track dirt in the wet spots. lol, but teh rest of my house only needs a sweep or a run over with a swiffer pad once every couple of weeks. It really does help though that my entrance way is downstairs. i'm afraid once we have hardwood on the treads how bad they're going to get :)

after replacing our carpet with laminate i miss having carpet. carpet is so much easier IMO. plus my dog doesn't act like he's on a skating rink everytime he tries to get up off the floor. sometimes it takes him awhile and i have to go get a towel and drag him over to an area rug to help him gain traction. i love the way my floor looks, bu ti can't stand how dirty they get, and i hate mopping. vacumming is so much easier.

lol when we had carpets-no. not a chance. I'd have been shampooing a lot, especially after we got our dogs. Only when bodily fluids hit the floor does it get semi scrubbed. My husband and I have a sweet deal, he deals with puke I deal with poop. But we also decided this spring to rip up all our carpet and install hardwood floors. Word of advice-if your hubby can't take a week off and someone else take your kids pay someone else to do your floors. Seriously. It's been 4 ish months since we started our floors and i still have subfloor the last foot between the floor and the wall lol.

I've shampood the carpet in the loungeroom with preen and everywhere else before. just we havený got it done properly and we need to.

My husband's a bit of a neat freak and even slightly dirty carpets gross him out, so that's why I clean them so often :) I figure it's a small thing I can do for him to make him happy because he works his ass off to support us and it only takes me about 30 minutes or so since I have a routine down by now.

I don't own carpet, thank heavens. But we do have area rugs. I haven't shampooed them in ages, though. If something spills, I just use a can of foaming upholstery cleaner that has a plastic brush on the end, and give it a bit of a scrub.

[deleted account]

Well, I deep clean ("shampoo") the carpets in our house at least once a week (usually Saturday mornings before we go somewhere for the day so we don't have to smell it or bother it while it dries). I also have a little handheld cleaner thing that sucks up liquids that I use for small spills in between deep cleans and I vaccuum at least once a day. :)

When we finally get/build our own house I am SO having hardwood floors installed - way easier to clean! lol

We don't currently have carpet, but when we did, I didn't shampoo it. Honestly, I think the chemicals in the shampoo are worse than the spill. I didn't want them sitting or standing 2 feet over those vapors. I would blot up spills and, if their was a stain, use a little baking soda to help clean it up.

I'm so glad that I have hardwood floors!! That being said, I do have area rugs and I don't allow colored or sugary beverages (or milk) anywhere but the dining room table or kitchen counter. Even my son's friends are programmed to follow this rule! ;)

LOL, this OP made me laugh. Sorry, but if I shampooed the carpet every single time, I probably would be on my knees all day. My husband loves me on my knees, but not for scrubbing carpets.

I have a hoover shampooer . . .and whiteish carpets. I still don't steam the carpets after every spill. Doesn't matter . . . I have 2 dogs, one child and a man that I swear spills a beer at least once a week. Even when I do clean the carpets, it doesn't take long for them to look crummy again. I steam the carpets about once every couple of months - unless someone forgets to let the dogs out, then I wip out my steam cleaners & clean that up right away.

[deleted account]

....apparently, I'm a freak.
When we had carpets, yes, I shampooed them after any spill, but in my defense, I used the little hand held shampooer.
We now have tile in the foyer and hardwood floors (very easy to clean) everywhere else except our bedroom. Why not the bedroom? Well, because I was too lazy to take the furniture out and figured since we don't eat in the bedroom it should be fine. Literally 3 minutes after the floor guys left, my husband spilled a glass of red wine in the bedroom. It bugs the crap out of me (seeing the stain everyday), but I'm still too lazy to get the furniture out of here :P

Hmmmm when I had carpets I virtually never did. I just cleaned up the spill. We only shampooed them when they started to get really dirty maybe once every 6-12mo's.

We are fortunate to have hardwood floors throughout our home now.

I ripped out my carpet and put down tile in the high traffic areas. So much easier. But I do have a Kirby that I use on the upstairs rooms about twice a year for dry shampooing.

What timely topic. I am currently sitting in my kitchen with half the furniture of house waiting for the carpet cleaner to arrive haha. To answer your question no way would I shampoo for every spill. With three boys I would spend my life sitting in the kitchen waiting for the carpet cleaning guy to arrive. My MIL is a bit the same. She just her lounge recovered and will not let my 3 year old put his feet on it. It's a little frustrating. And she runs around the house telling them not to touch the glass doors and cleaning as they touch

Must be the same as a VAX which is the vacuums that clean carpet here :)

I am the same with my kid. Our house is all carpet. So I have to try and minimise damage. Everything he ate used to be in the high chair but now i care a bit less. I just scrub with a microfibre cloth and some soap when they're in bed and turn the breeze air on, open the windows to let it dry.

It's a vacuum and carpet cleaner brand. Very popular here. The little green is a lightweight spot cleaner, very handy for smaller spills and doing your couches and even cleaning your vehicle.

What's a bissel? Renae spews constantly on the carpet (baby spew so not so bad) but i really need to get my carpet done.

LOL, if I did that, I'd do nothing but shampoo my carpet all day! If it's easy to wipe up/blot, that's all I do. I do have a Bissel little green and a big carpet cleaner for big messes - like bright pink candle wax or a bottle of foundation (ugh!) though!

[deleted account]

Allie... my stepmom is kind of anal about cleaning... so all food and drink (except water) is restricted to the kitchen table for the kids.

My mother in law thinks that everytime my son spills someone else's drink or anything she has to shampoo the carpets. She always tells my son to pick up his cup so it doesnt leak. I understand being clean, but a toddler (21 months) doesnt know any better. And if he drops something in the couch she has to go pick it up. I have a very good relationship with her but she expects stuff out of my son that he doesnt even know.

HA! I get the dishcloth and scrub until it looks like the rest of the carpet.

[deleted account]

Huh? Shampoo the carpet? What language are you speaking?

I soak it up w/ paper towels (or pick it up if it's a solid), baby wipe (or clorox wipe) it, and Febreeze it if neccessary. That goes for my kids spills AND mine.

The sucky thing about being the only grown up in the house is that I have to clean up all of my own messes....

We also don't have carpet carpet if that makes sense... It's real easy to clean crap (literally AND figuratively) off of this thing.

I actually just bought one of those bissle carpet cleaners and I am going to start doing the floor in front of the couch (lol) once a week. But for EVERY spill? Fat chance lol. I don't have that time!
