Swallow... That way nobody knows I had a big hunk of phlegm.. It's not ladylike to spit it out (unless its in a kleenex)

You're the ONLY one who referred to that. I was kind of seeing how many people would think that was what I was talking about. But it seems we have a good convo going on phlegm lol.

Bahahaha! Krista, I'm sorry :/ But I can't help but think of that now.

@Dana.. I never said there weren't some places where it was considered littering, but it seems to me that MOST places don't.

I mean, would you consider it littering if someone was on a long road trip and had to vomit, but there was literally nowhere in sight for miles?? Is a police officer really going to hand them a ticket as they upchuck at the side of the road? Doubtful. And vomit is much worse than plain spit.

[deleted account]

Spit. Bleh bleh bleh!! Lol. Phlegm is VILE. It makes me gag. But so does the other thing. So spitting applies to both. LOL.

Spit! Every time, just not in front of the kids at the minute, as the little man saw me do it last week and has been spitting everywhere - grrrr!

Alright, I literally just freaking gagged over Christina's story. That's disgusting.

And actually I'm not wrong Christina, it's illegal to spit on the sidewalk in many places in the states.

Oh Christina, that's so gross! I was scared of doing that. With the bronchitis, I've been keeping an empty Tim's cup in the cupholder of my car to use as a schmutz receptacle, and I'm so paranoid about getting the loogie cup and my proper coffee cup mixed up!

As far as spitting on the sidewalk -- well, if you just coughed up some gunk, at least try to spit it over to the edge, where people aren't as likely to walk. But a lot of times I see guys just spitting and spitting and spitting and there's no reason for it, and it's fucking gross. I was walking once and this guy spit right in front of my feet, and I was like, "Pardon me, but I believe you dropped something." If I ever catch my kid behaving like a Neanderthal like that in public, there will be hell to pay.

I've done that, too (occasionally spit it into an empty pop can).. But the thing that's been deterring me from doing so again.. If I end up falling asleep on the couch and I get really thirsty and am still barely awake.. If I go to drink it.. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.. Yeah, that's why I haven't done that in a while.. Gross :/

I am getting over being sick so I can definitely relate to this right now.
I am just finishing up eating my breakfast and reading this thread, how lovely lol. If it is a tiny amount, I usually swallow, but if it is a big hunk of crap then yes I will definitely spit it out, usually in a tissue so I can check it out. My husband has a bad habit that if he has an empty soda can in the vehicle he will just spit it into there. That bugs me so much lol. But I guess when you are driving, you gotta do what you gotta do.

"Ew, me too Loureen! I think it's actually considered littering here in the states if you spit on the side walk, as it should be!"

Actually, I don't think it is, Dana.. It's not trash, it's just super disgusting to see. Now, if you spit out gum or something, I'm pretty sure that's considered littering, as it should be. But bodily fluids? I don't think so.

Well, I have had sinus problems for a long time since before we found out what my allergies are (actually, that's the reason we got the allergy testing done.. Anyway..). Sometimes it's Ok, sometimes it's very bad.

I always have a box of tissues in the house, usually in the living room. I'm kind of like Ebony.. About 95% of the time, I spit it out. I don't have to paint a picture for the rest..

But when I do spit, it's either in a napkin, tissue, toilet paper (if I'm in the bathroom, and then I flush that down the toilet) or the BATHROOM sink if I don't have enough time to tear off some TP.

It's absolutely disgusting when people spit it in the kitchen sink or straight in the trash can (no offense to anyone here, I just personally cannot stand to see it when I go to throw something away- it makes me want to barf).

And I also examine mine to make sure it's not an infection. BTW, an infection would result in yellowish-green to brown phlegm. If it's clear, it's just allergies.

EDITED TO ADD: I just wanted to clarify that when I do spit in napkins, they are paper napkins, not the washable fabric napkins.. That would be WAY nasty..

I can handle everything but vomit. I can trach, but I cannot do vomit.

And you know whats weird about me, i can handle all types of bodily functions..urine, blood, poo(barely)..but when i have to suction a trach or a have a patient who needs to spit...i actually get grossed out...double standard i know...but when i am around people i do it discreetly, into a tissue..etc, but when i am driving i will spit it out the window....

Ewww - spit it out!! Actually, when I brush my teeth I always have to hawk up a loogie (not sure I spelled that right LOL) so now my 2 year old twins copy me and pretend to do it when they're brushing their teeth - kinda funny but kinda gross.

Ugh. I see old ladies of a certain group spitting in public on the street ALL the time here. It is vile. I've seen them do it INSIDE the mall. I'd love to see someone try to write them a ticket though, lol.

spit. as discreetly, and politely as possible.

...so, my husband was sick last week and apparently he spit in to the kitchen sink (i've asked him not to but being a man, he does it anyway)...i go to clean out the drain trap thingy that keeps food from going in to the pipes...you know whats hanging through the underside of it, about to drip into my hand? his big ol, nasty phlegm. he didn't even have the courtesy to rinse it down the drain! UGH!! so nasty.

Spit in a tissue or the toilet or in an area where people will not come into contact with it , I hate seeing spit on the sidewalk fucking disgusting .

[deleted account]

[deleted account]

I was all ready for the nasty conversation lol

Well, it'SNOT (insert humor here). I spit that nasty shit OUT! Usually into the sink in the bathroom or a tissue or a baby wipe......ewwwggghhhh.....

I absolutely despise spitting, but sometimes there is no option. It's always into a tissue or toilet though. I would never just spit on the ground. It it one of my pet peeves! My brother used to spit out of my car window all the time, and it drove me CRAZY!!!
