In October 2010 I had Mirena iud inserted but a month later due to not seeing strings in Nov 18 2010 I had a ultrasound to confirm it was properly in place which it was. During the next few months I started feeling sharp pains in pelvis, abdomen and back which when I called the nurses on staff they said it was normal my body was just getting used to the iud. So for the last 2 years 7mths I have just learned to live with the pain, weight gain, depression, no sex drive. In May 2013 I decided the pain was enough and I had to get it removed. (I am a single mom of two boys 7, and 3 and just lost my job in Jan 2013 and health coverage) I sold some of my valuables to come up with the $150 for iud removal. So May 9 2013 I went to get it removed. It was painful and the same doctor who inserted it can now not find it. Then I had to go get a transvaginal ultrasound which was also painful. the technician was unsure but thought she may have seen it. I did not get the $150 refunded even though my iud was not removed. The dr told me to come back later for a hysteroscopy in which he inserts a camera to see where it could be but it would cost a additional $350-$400. I explained I could not come up with that and he said he would do it free of charge. So on May 16 2013 @ 8:30am I had hysteroscopy. It was one of the most painful experience ever. Even on valium and vicodin I was awake for the procedure:( I cried. Once again, the dr said he didn't see it in there. He said it had fallen out. In front of his nurse he stated he was 100% certain. I asked if it was possible it migrated he said absolutely not if it was to migrate it would have done so right away. I demanded a CAT Scan to make sure. He told me it would be a waste of money but reluctantly gave me the number of place I could go. At 11am same day as hysteroscopy I had CAT scan done for $159. At 3pm the doctor called me and apologized for being wrong. The iud is still in me it had perforated uterus and was on top of it. I need surgery to get it out. He would waive his fee but the surgery center I would need to get it done at is $1500-$2000. What do I do?? UPDATE: dr has agreed for his practice to pay for surgery going in tom @ 2pm to get it removed. Please send prayers and positive thoughts!

Update: Had Mirena removed, thank goodness! I am sore and taking my percocet for pain. I am unable to lift things for the next week, so my 3 year old is sad about that. I still feel pain so it may just be from what they did in there to remove it or effects from mirena. I lost 5lbs though.

This is not the only case of such an instance. My daughter had to have hers removed for this same reason as well, only she was lucky in that it had not penetrated completely through YET! I think perhaps there should be a class action lawsuit!!!!! I know my daughter would join in! This has been happening for years, not just recently. I think I am going to do some more research on this.

Personally I would be looking for a lawyer because something they did was wrong and consultations are free. It sounds to me this is a doctor who knows he did wrong and will even do the surgery for free. Please seek legal help you may get a settlement IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK.. My hospital when I was 18 neglected to weigh me so when they put me under they gave me too much and my heart stopped 4 times and I couldn't wake up. I went in for a simple removal of my four wisdom teeth and because of their neglect I almost died. I was nievesweet and too christian to doanything That years later when Istudied law I could have sued the hospiltal and held them acountable. If Ihad council then I would have at least spoken to an attorney who specializes in malpractice. Good luck but you've had unnecessary pain and suffering. Look into it

Well good luck with everything! So glad the doctor is covering the fees since he ignored it and misdiagnosed it. Not many doctors would do that. I really hope they get it out safely for you, and you have a quick recovery! The iuds scare me. I have never had one, and have heard so many horror stories about them. So glad they found it and can remove it for you.
