'Why am I being racist?'
'Because I'm a female'

bahahahaha!

This has nothing to do with BFing, and everything to do with a dumb, drunk biatch.

That's crazy! But, was she even breastfeeding at the time, or just flaunting her boobs all over the place? At any rate, I don't think it really gives breastfeeding a bad name, just drunken idiots. (oh, and if she was breastfeeding while drunk, she should've been charged with child endangerment too.)

Jennifer, I think he was there because she and her partner were having a loud argument...I think the breasts coming out happened during the course of the altercation. I wasn't there, though, so I could be wrong! :)

@ lisa, i meant that there are some people (not me) out there that use that as an excuse why they don't like women breastfeeding in public. they think there are women out there that just flaunt their boobs around anywhere they want-no baby attached for a while- and therefore this women is just "proving" them right. of course I'M not saying that, but this just gives those wackos more ammunition to use.
did i make more sense, i did i just confuse you some more? i have the tendency to do that, writing isn't my strong suit..:)

I had assumed he stopped her in the first place for indecency. My speakers weren't working when I watched the video. :/

Ah...I see...lol...I was picturing a police officer being okay with being squirted with breast milk, and walking away saying "No problem, they're just breasts!" ;)

Jennifer, I don't know what part of Ontario you live in, but around here, people would freak on you if you walked around with your breasts bared! Yes, it's legal, but nobody actually does it. Mothers here have been harassed for breastfeeding in public. It might be protected under the law, but that doesn't mean that everybody supports it!

Aleksandra, that's really not how it works, though. Breast milk is ALWAYS being produced, and yes, the milk that's produced while there is alcohol in your blood WILL have alcohol in it. But it doesn't STAY in the milk. As long as the milk is in your body, your body will filter the alcohol out of it just as it filters the alcohol out of your blood. They have done studies to prove this.

Meah, in Ontario this wouldn't even be an issue... it's legal for women to pull out their boobs. Maybe the cop would have gotten her for public drunkness and squirting him would have been seen as assault. But breasts aren't seen as public indecency.

I'm sorry Dyan that I misunderstood you- to me it sounded like you had the perception that breastfeeding mothers think they can expose their breasts anytime anywhere just because they are breastfeeding mothers. I probably just didn't read it correctly.

What did you mean?

Milk is produced all the time- foremilk and hindmilk are not produced separately. The milk separates in the ducts because fat globules are lower density and stick up higher whereas the watery foremilk sinks lower.

Alcohol leaves the milk at the same rate it leaves the blood.

Research shows no benefit to pumping and dumping after consuming alcohol other than to relieve engorgement.

On average, a baby who takes in a normal amount of milk during the feeding will take in about 2.5% of the alcohol consumed by the mother.

Actually I will have to disagree. Apparently foremilk producion happens between feedings and such will have alcohol present in it - minor (or negligable) levels if it was one or two glasses of wine (that is 75-200mls of wine, and not the typical standard glass one gets at home or even at some restaurants). If one had consumed alcohol in binge levels (ie, 5 standard drinks or more in one session - which is not that hard to do) it will take so much longer to clear from the system, but at the same time the foremilk gets produced and it is so with alcohol. I would always recommend to pump and dump after a heavy drinking session and not just to relieve the fullness.

Nikki, just to point out...expressing before feeding her child would have done NOTHING. The old advice to "pump and dump" after drinking is actually false. If you drink while breastfeeding, you should be safe to breastfeed when you are safe to drive, since the body clears alcohol from your milk at the same rate as it does from your blood.

Generally, it takes about 2 hours to clear the alcohol from 1 drink. Realistically, the amount of alcohol in breast milk would be pretty minute anyways, but to be safe, you should wait 2 hours per drink. Some women might need to express during that time to relieve engorgement or boost their supply, but if not, there is no need to express at all!

I do agree Lisa I mistyped earlier what I meant was why was she drunk if she was still BF. I don't think it is wrong to have a glass of wine now and then (Everything in moderation right?) but I don't think she would have been lucid enough to remember to express for a while before feeding her child.

I would bet she was trying to express some of that over fill.
She likely had her boobs out with the intention of relieving some of the pressure or having her hubby help her, and then the cops show up and she gets all stupid and belligerent. I would have been like "officer, yes I am drunk, and my boobies are about to explode cause I haven't nursed my baby in too long, I will put them away just let me get some of this milk into that coffee cup and I'll be done." lmao...
Silly drunk mom, should have left her boobies in that nice fancy bra of hers.

Well, I have gone to weddings and drank quite a bit (and I was lactating at the time). There is nothing wrong with it. My child/ren were left with grandparents with expressed milk for the duration of my absence. I also expressed during my time/s there and also after getting home (knowing that alcohol stays in the system for many hours, even the next day - depending on how much one drank).
There is nothing wrong with having a glass or two of wine once in a while (or daily if that is ones thing) provided it is a few hours away from feeding. Even if one becomes intoxicated its a personal choice, as long as one does not feed during this time of intoxication.

Ah, well, many mothers make the choice to consume alcohol and still breastfeed, myself included. But there's quite the difference between being inebriated and having a glass of wine :).

ok this happened here in Ohio. No one looked at it as bad for BF just another reason not to get drunk at a wedding. Also, if she is BFing why was she drinking in the first place?

Its my humor of the day anyway! As for whether or not it gives the breastfeeding a stigma, it doesn't change my opinions on bf. Can't answer for the general public however.

. it goes with the whole line of thought that they can take their breasts out when ever they feel like it, and some idiot can say see, just cause she breastfeeds doesn't give her the right to show her boobs, and then it just goes from there

Like others have said, this was a drunken idiot. Breastfeeding mothers don't think they can 'take their breasts out' whenever they want. They know they have a right to breastFEED wherever they have a right to be. Feeding must be accompanied by a baby.

Oh man, that was hilarious. That has nothing to do with BFing. Her infant/toddler wasn't even there.

They got drunk at a wedding, started to fight and ya...

I like her husband throwing her under the bus at the end there too. =/ Classy pair.

lmao, what a crazy bitch. i do kinda think it puts breastfeeding mothers in a bad light. it goes with the whole line of thought that they can take their breasts out when ever they feel like it, and some idiot can say see, just cause she breastfeeds doesn't give her the right to show her boobs, and then it just goes from there.

[deleted account]

"Would you please put the breast away?" Polite enough request! I'm sorry, I giggled. She was a drunk idiot and immature actions happen when you're drunk. I hope this is not a true picture on what kind of mother she is.
