Teen Mum Vloggers on YouTube

So this girl the most well-known teen mummy vlogger on YouTube, and has just created a shitstorm by announcing her second 'unplanned' pregnancy. She is 19yo, has a 13mth old daughter, and is now pregnant with her second baby, to a second father, in less than two years, all before she hits 20!

She has copped a lot of flack for this. Some people are accusing her of TTCing (she is claiming she was on the Pill... the same Pill she fell pregnant on the first time). Some have accused her of using this pregnancy to generate more views and notoriety, and therefore more money. Many are labelling her as irresponsible. And then there are the hordes of teenage viewers who are congratulating her.

And therein lies my problem with it. I used to watch her, and actually was very impressed at one point with how she seemed to be handling new motherhood while being so young and a full-time student. But my issue with this is that she's putting herself out there as some beacon of hope for teenage mothers, and has positioned herself as a role model. Many of her viewers are pregnant teens or teen mums, or just teenagers in general.

This video of her telling her parents turned my stomach. Family support is one thing (she has only just moved out), but acting like it's a joke is quite another.

And apparently YouTube is listening. There have been rumours that they are going to remove partnerships which allow them to generate an income from their videos, depending on ratings and views) from teen mummy vloggers because they are concerned about the message it sends. They don't want to be associated with glamourising teen pregnancy.

So what do you think? Do you think teen mummy vloggers are a good thing? Are they supporting other young girls, or encouraging bad choices? And should YT withdraw their support and remove their partnerships?

I don't have a problem with these clips. She doesnt seem to be glamorizing teen moms. It's good to see that she is a teen mom who is doing the right things for herself and her child. I was a teen mom myself, and you hear so much negativity when you are in that situation. Its obviously not the situation you want to be in, but people telling you that youre never going to make it, your life will be miserable and your childrne damaged, really doesnt help the situation. Its good for teen moms to see that they can succeed, since most are told they cannot before their child is even born.

I don't really have a problem with it. It's not like she is trying to glamorize it. In the first video, she was talking about how she is still going to school and she will be done with her cna classes by November, she has her own place. It's not like she is living offer her parents, she is actually trying to make a life for herself and her kids. I don't see how this is any different than Teen Mom on MTV. They aren't trying to glamorize it, they are just showing that this is life and this is what this person is doing to get her life straight.

I think it can be good and bad. Good, it's real they say what they want. Teen mom et al are so fake it's unbelievable.

Honestly I didnt see anything wrong with any of the videos.

She seemed pretty open about it , I mean pregnancy happens ...I fell pregnant twice , I fell pregnant only 11 months after my first child both times on the pill , I can relate to her it wasnt planned it happened , I understand I was considerably older than her but doesnt that just go to show that once you are sexually active it can happen to anyone.

I dont think she glorified teen pregnancy she certanly explained it wasnt what she wanted or planned but I commend her for taking it in her stride and remaining positive which is so important for mummy and child , she seems genuine to me , she has great support she cant take back what happened why not just be positive and happy ?

After looking at her page she has a big slogan saying .

Teen mom facing reality with a positive attitude.

Good for her , I actually think she has a great attitude she has taken motherhood into her stride, she has a sense of humour , she wants to finish her education ...when life gives you lemons , make lemonade !

I think for youtube to take it down would be ridiculous , I dont encourage teen pregnancy but I do encourage positivity and making the most of what life has thrown at you , for those in her shoes she can give hope and inspire them to be the best mummy they can now they do have babies but I dont see how she is encouraging anyone to actually have a baby.

Oh yeah. Teen Mom is more censored, but still the fact that they are young girls getting pregnant and showing what their life is like. It's still the same basic concept.

Lacye, she has literally only JUST moved out of her parents' place. Like in the last few weeks.

I agree that it's good she is continuing her studies. She's going to need it.

And I do think there is a difference between Teen Mom and these amateur vloggers. There is no accountability here. They can literally say and post whatever they want.

Ashley, it's a LOT different to her just talking to her friends about it - she has over 13,000 subscribers! These latest videos all have between 10,000 - 17,000 views. That equates to a hell of a lot of teenage girls seeing this.

Carolee, I agree that teen mums need support and encouragement. And hope... hope to not become one of the 25% (this is a conservative estimate from what I can gather) who have a second baby before they're out of they're out of their teens.

For the record, what this girl does in her private life is none of my concern. Two kids.. twenty kids.. I don't care. But I am uncomfortable with the way it is being presented to the public.

IMO, teenage mothers NEED hope. This girl does not seem to be "promoting" teenage motherhood. Yes, she is a teenage mother who is sharing her story, but she is not saying "Oh, this life is great! Why isn't everyone doing it?" I've gotten pregnant while on the pill twice as well. If I hadn't had miscarriages, I would have been in the same boat as her. Let me tell you, it would have been nice to hear something other than how I've screwed up my life forever and that no man existed who would ever want to date somebody who already had a child.

Should teenage pregnancy be promoted? No. Should teenage mothers be shunned? Not as much as they are. I, personally, don't see anything contravertial with this girl. She is just showing how well she is dealing with the consequenses of her choices, and there's nothing wrong with that.

honestly her video has nothing wrong to it ... they aren't making it into hey everyone should do it ... now do i think youtube has rights to take it off sure why not if they feel she is making teens think its easy then thats their own business but its no different then her just telling all her friends and them thinking its all fun and games .. teen's need to see that its not just fun and games ... I don't think shes acting like its just an oh well thing she seems like she has it together
