" The Lovely Bones "

Maybe I should have read the book first but after watching the movie I'm not sure WHY everyone's raving about how wonderful it was? I thought it was strange! I appreciate the thought behind it but and I think it had the potential to be GREAT but ...... I don't even know how to describe what I'm feeling! Ugh...

Any thoughts? Interpretations?

I loved the movie. Thought it was great lol. I never read the book though. Had I read the book I probably would have hated the movie, thats how things seem to go for me.

I'm a movie junkie though, and I tend to like movies most people hate. The happening, case and point lol

I read the book then watched the movie. I thought they were way different from each other and the book described their interesting view of heaven a lot better than the movie. I thought they were both weird though. Especially the ending of the book. Hated it! Wouldn't rate the movie that high either.

I too think that the movie was rather weird and slow. The portrayal of heaven was beautiful but I don't know that it should have been such a huge part of the movie, quite long and drawn out. The book was much better. I read it a long time ago and loved the book. Was surprised to see that they made a movie of it and was excited to see it, but disappointed in the end.

I've yet to find anyone on here that actually liked the movie?! Where I live I've been told me several friends that I " HAVE " to see it.....the it's " SOO GOOD! "....WTF? I gotta go talk to those people cuz I just don't get it!

I have read the book, and not seen the movie yet. When I read the book, I was thinking about how the heck they were going to portray it in a movie. I'll probably watch the movie sometime, but I'm not in a hurry.

I agree Tah, not purgatory.....it was strange! I get the journey and the symbolism behind what they were trying to say BUT I just didn't like the WAY they did it! All I can keep saying is, " HOW STRANGE and BORING it was! "....LOL!

I thought we could have headed back to the hotel jacuzzi with the wine bottle early. we saw it on a weekend get-away just the 2 of us and i was less than impressed and i found it strange myself..the best part was the frozen blue margarita the movie tavern served...sooooo good....we talked about all the editing that could have been addressed in it. I am not sure if it was a heaven as much as a waiting ground, not exactly a purgatory the way i understood it from catholic school, but more of a journey to heaven, one to be made after you have completely let go of your connection to earth..IMO...BUT REALLY..THE BLUE MARGARITA....YES.....2 thumbs up

I think that's what bugged me Joanna.....I didn't like the portrayal of Heaven! It was strange and it lost me!

the book was waaaaaaaaaay better than the movie!

The only reason I somewhat enjoyed the movie was because I'm always interested in any movie that portrays a heaven... it's fun to know how other people would see it.

Oh, thank god! EVERYONE I've talked to tells me how wonderful it is! I was underwhelmed to say the least!

I read the book and didn't get what the big deal was either, so you're not alone. Great concept, but the execution just didn't do it for me.
