I am not really sure why since I hate the whole beauty pagent for children thing, but I am sitting here watching Toddlers and Tiaras on TLC. I am just baffled by one mother who is just talking about spending $1500 dollars on one dress for her child and then in the next breath says that she thinks pagents are worth it for her daughters future. She says that her daughter can win money to go towards college in the pagents which will be beneficial. My thought...save the money you are spending and start a college fund yourself!

I think those pagent things are stupid , look what happened to Jonbanay Ramsy ( or how ever you spell her name) she was murdered no one ever found the killer.

I think its just rediculias 3, 4, and 5 year old boys and Girls. when they are made up they look like 16, 17, and 18 year old in little 3, 4,and 5 year old bodys I personaly don't think that is pretty at all.

I don't think pageants in themselves would be harmful if they set a maximum budget that parents could send and banned the use of makeup. I think children should only enter the pageants in their local area a couple of times each year. I don't like the idea of young children being dragged across the state/country to compete every month or even more frequently. That’s just crazy to me. It sounds like the moms get more out of it than the kids.

In my opinion, teaching girls that they need all of this CRAP to be beautiful is EXACTLY the same as forcing them to wear a Burka (sp?). It is oppressive, degrading, and just plain wrong.

it is awful, i can't imagine putting fake teeth, fake hair, makeup and spray tan on my child (granted i only have a son thus far..... lol) to make them look like mini adults, not to mention the midriff baring outfits paied with all this fake crap! i think it teaches young girls the wrong idea about beauty, and i also think it is wrong to objectify such young girls

I hate child beauty pagents. I think it's wrong to objectify and sexualize young girls like that. Sick.

I cannot watch that show because all I want to do is find those moms and smack them upside the head for pushing the beauty myth upon their daughters. Girls get enough crap growing up trying to fit into the beauty standards the last place they should be getting is from their moms who are suppose to teach them that intelligence and kindness is what makes someone beautiful. Personally I have just never been a fan of beauty pagents.

It's disturbing that these lil girls are sexualized and that their parents are the first to scream about their daughters pictures being found in a trunk in the house of a pedophile.

If a child is interested, I don't really have a problem with the ones you are talking about at like a fair or something, but young children should not be wearing make-up or tanning! I even saw an episode where a mom was fitting her 7 year old with fake teeth since the girl was missing her front tooth and that just "wasn't acceptable for the pagent".

My 4 year has recently seen one of these shows and has since been begging to try it. I'm not into them though. I did a few small pageants when I was young and enjoyed them but they were more along the lines of sleeping in sponge rollers the night before and wearing a sundress or something. No make-up or tanning! If she's still asking by next summer, I may let her go to the fair and do one of those but I can't imagine doing one of these "high glitz" type ones on TV!

It is like watching a train wreck! I just can't bring myself to change the channel...

omg...I watched a special edition where they followed two teenagers who had once been on a television show about child beauty pageants...One quit when she was still a kid and was growing up to be a really well-rounded young adult, ready for college. The other was ...how should I say it...bleach blonde, not too bright, and yes, very, very tacky.

I hate the whole pageant thing...I think it's creepy and weird. I can't keep myself away from toddlers and tiaras though, it's like watching a train wreck.

Yeah, they could start their own college fund..but then how else will they live vicariously through their daughters?
The whole deal is disturbing to me...making your 3 year old up as a sex symbol, doing suggestive dances, and the like?
I enjoy letting them keep their innocence for as long as they can. There's enough adult information and material that will engulf them soon enough.

I agree. And I think that the pressure put on those girls is awful-it forces them to grow up and think about things like how thin they are and what their clothes look like and whether they're "pretty" and "talented" far too early. My sister-in-law used to put my niece into pageants when she was young. I was so furious because my niece wanted to cut her hair, which was long and blonde and pretty, but made her hot and she was tired of fixing it, but my SIL wouldn't "let" her because of the pageants and because she thought it was pretty. Ridiculous!
