We have Australian Idol here and once there was a contestant called Paulini and Dicko told her she was too fat for her dress. She is like size 14 AUS. (US size 10?) and she looked really nice in the dress to me. Since then every year they have picked a larger contestant like Casey Donovan and the hairdresser chick just so they don't get bad press (haven't watched recent seasons). Then they make them all sing a really old song that was awesome in it's day but everyone just thinks... wtf to them singing it in the 21st Century like Emotions by Mariah Carey or that Rise Up song. It's just an awful awful show and I sometimes wonder how Dicko survives as the boss of BMG.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I like to watch it when there is nothing else on. The result shows make me mad because a lot of the wrong people get kicked off. There are a couple left right now who irritate me lol.

Remember mandisa, the heavier black contestant and simon asked if they had a bigger stage for her and some other comments about her weight....and he's the producer, why wouldn't I think they would say it to someone behind the cameras....he did eventually apologize, but geez....she can sing, so what's the problem, do u have to insult her

I hate these programmes especially the first episodes where they humiliate people who don't have a singing voice. I can't think of anything worse to watch then somebodies dreams being dashed. Not having overweight people on camera behind the judges is pathetic, what difference does that make to the show nothing. How vain!

i don;t follow the show over in the us or here, but it was probally rude to do it, but if it was me i'd never want to be in the front anyway and see my fat ass on tv...(and also i'd not want anyone to see my at an idol show, i'd die of shame)

I'm not an Idol fan nor do I ever follow it....but this sounds a little fishy to me. Maybe I'm naive, but I can't imagine somebody outright saying that. Is that the reason? Yes, but I just can't see them saying it.

Especially the thing with the usher, doesn't it just sound off? To say oh it makes sense that they separated you from the skinny girls...I just don't see where that comment would just randomly pop into conversation?

The first comment, I could believe. If it weren't followed by the story about the usher, I don't think I would doubt it at all.

If they have some witnesses or others who have had the same thing happen to them, then I'll believe it. I just need more than her story alone because it sounds too random.

i've read about that. I don't believe the girl, i think she's making a huge deal out of nothing, i see a lot of bigger audience members on that show. Just another person trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

American Idol sucks. So does Australian Idol. Horrible horrible shows and I'm sick of their contestants butchering good songs. Half their contestants are fat anyway! No one is looking at the audience either, they are totally WRONG and she should sue them. GET THEM OFF AIR I SAY!

[deleted account]

That makes me mad.I would not stand for it.If more people stand up and show there disgust, i think many will back down and stop this sort of discrimination. If that girl is not good enough for front row, if i were sitting in the front row for example i would of said" Well neither am i and out i would of walked.Did anyone else hear, did anyone else say anything.?

We should always stand up for others in those situations.I hate that sort of crap.:-(

i saw the girl on good morning america, yes she's overweight, but a beautiful girl, i mean they aren't cutting te wall of her house out to get her there or anything, he ignored the first comment but then the usher said what he said and i say she is a MUCH better person than i am for being so tolerant of it. Its discrimination. She then said someone called her yelling at her about it, but no apology. she said they are saying she wants money but al she wants is an "im sorry'...this is discrimination, but her shoes on good morning america were so nice..lol

This is ridiculous! Who cares who is seen on camera in the audience. The audience is not part of the competition or being on stage. That is so cruel.

Just WOW.

I've watched maybe 2 seasons of the show and couldn't take any more. It was so obviously set up. If this truly happened, American Idol has a lot of explaining to do.
