Ok so I got the idea from another thread. I've always heard not wearing shoes in the house is a Canadian thing. I've always heard hanging out in our garages in the summer is also a Canadian thing. Is that true?

What country exclusive traditions have you heard of or practice?

I think no shoes in the house is just good etiquette all around the world.

We didn't have a garage growing up, but I know plenty of people who chill in theirs, a couple friends even have theirs set up as game rooms.

Seems like everyone I talk to in the US had the same pastime as youths... Cruising, or as we called it, dragging main. On weekend nights, or all week during the summer, we'd load up the car with friends and drive around the main strip, and we'd pull into parking lots to park and hang out with other carfulls of friends. Man, I miss that!

I'm Canadian, and no shoes in the house ever! (unless you've already buckled your kids into their car seats and suddenly remembered that you forgot your cellphone upstairs and you're wearing lace-up boots...then it's ok lol)
And I have hung out in quite a few garages.

I don't know about any traditions that are solely American, we're a melting pot anyhow. ;)

As far as taking shoes off in the house. We take ours off. As do most of my friends and family at their house.

As far as hanging out in the garage, I suppose so. But, that's because my husband is usually messing around with our cars or doing something in the garage. Otherwise we're more apt to be hanging out in the back yard with a fire or down at the beach (I live along the beach so...)

I'm from the UK and I've never heard of Straw Bear! What is it?!?!

Gurning and Morris Dancing are classics though! ;)

I'm from Australia and I find shoes in the house exceedingly rude. We hang out in the garage/car port in Summer too. I'm not sure what traditions are exclusive to Aus, because we steal those sort of things from every other country!
