Using the Men's Toilet...do you do it?

Okay, the post about Unisex bathrooms got me thinking about this. I bet we've all been there, at a restaurant, a concert, heck, even a gas station. You've gotta go...bad, the line for the ladies is 10 girls long, and not a man in sight. I know I've done it, hopped over to the men's bathroom to relieve myself. But, is it right? I don't know. If it's an emergency, maybe, if you just don't want to wait, maybe not. I guess I'm on the fence.

So ladies, have you ever used the men's room and what was your reason? And/or, do you condone the use of the men's room by a woman?

*ETA I'm only adding this because ther's only 2 responses, if there were more, I wouldn't. Should men be able to use the women's restroom if they had a line? How owuld you feel?

We always have 2 each the only place i've seen a single one is at some service stations, really small ones

A side comment that has nothing to do with the OP....sorry!

April, you really shouldn't hold it. When you have to pee and you hold it, you're overworking the muscles in that area and I can promise you that you WILL have issues later on in life. My aunt always held it and she now HAS to wear those Depends pads every day. And if she feels like she's got to pee, it's already to late. DON'T HOLD IT GIRL!!! Get your butt to a toilet!

Off topic, but I love Boston Pizza. DH and I either go there or to Barley Station when we visit my MIL and her boyfriend. Barley Station is only in Salmon Arm though and they make their own beer- it's also a pub so no one under 19 is allowed in there. We go there when we want to be away from children completely

BTW they only have 2 stall bathrooms in the Barley Station and they are FREEZING!!

I just used a single stalled at Boston Pizza yesterday during my team lunch meeting! ;)

I've seen single stall washrooms in Chapters. They have family washrooms too. If it's a single stall I believe they should be unisex because I hate having to wait around for the ladies room.

I should mention that here in Kelowna if you need to use a changing table in a resturaunt they're usually in the handicap washrooms. I don't know why, but that's how it is here. At least at Milestones

It must, I have been in a couple of them... Many fast food restaraunts here are single washrooms, one for men and one for women.... The single stall means, it is either a single washroom or there are some that have the pee thing on the wall and a door'd stall with a tolilet in it... Don't ask me why, I don't make the things....

Almost everyone that has commented referenced a single stalled washroom, so I guess they are common. ;)

I have done it, if I had to go bad bad and the woman's line was long (which it usually is) but it was a single stall... Not sure about running in to a multiple stalled men's washroom. There would probably be a few of them standing at their own poteum, since most of their's have stand up pee stalls along with door'd stalls... See, you can tell I have been in a few eh'? LOL I have even brought my daughter into a sirngle stalled one, I wasn't cleaning up a puddle on the floor when there was a perfectly fine, open washroom, just because there is a man symbol on the door doesn't mean we should pee ourselves! hehe

But I should add, those men ones are usually pretty damn smelly! I think some of them pee on the floor instead... Some definitely didn't learn by trying to hit the cherrios in the bowl! ;)

Single stall, yes. Especially if it is one of my children who needs to go. Men could probably go in a single stal women's bathroom but not multiple. God help the woman who would pee after him. Bleah. Hovering is always the best choice!

Also, I just noticed that Jodi added more to the OP. Should men be able to use the women's? I think I'd be a little surprised if I were walking into the ladies room and a man was in there. But it wouldn't bother me unless he appeared to be lurking for no good reason. I think that's a case where I'd rely a lot on my instincts. If he was simply finishing up, washing his hands and leaving, I wouldn't mind. A lot of guys I know wouldn't use the ladies room anyhow, no matter how badly they had to go. Kinda like how my husband refuses to EVER hold my purse in public. He probably also wouldn't use the ladies room, even if no one was in there to see him do it. He'd be more likely to go find a tree or go behind the building. Men....

A single stall one, definitely would and have before. I've used the multi-stall ones too, but not on purpose! :) That's a bit of an embarassing mistake to make! I wouldn't have a problem with a man using a woman's single-stall washroom, but it probably would make me uncomfortable to see a man in a multi-stall woman's washroom. I'd have to wonder why too, because unless the men's is completely out of commission, the line-ups are always longer for the woman's!

You know you could get a serious UTI from holding it for too long. I got one when I was pregnant with my first daughter because my boss wouldn't let me use the washroom. After I got back from an OBGYN appointment I told her that now she had to let me use the washroom reguardless of the time or I'd call her manager because she caused me to have a UTI

i rarely use public bathrooms myself. i will hold it, even if it is a 4 hour ride to my parent's house. my son, however, is not as talented as me. if there is a long line for the ladies room, then you bet i am going to take him to the men's room.

1) me personally using the men's room--> NO

2) man using wonen's room --> Yes, if it is only one toilet/one sink but multiple stalls? NO. too many places to hide

I do this all the time, but only if there are no men in there. I'm always amazed that no-one else thought to do it. Often a whole group of women follow me in because they were all thinking of it but didn't dare for some reason.

And no, I wouldn't mind if I caught a man in the women's washroom if he obviously just nipped in to take care of business without realizing that any women were there. The embarrassed look on his face would excuse him. If he was sort of lingering and grinning, then ew, get out.

I've done it before, and would do it again. A toilet is a toilet is a toilet and when you've gotta go, you've gotta go! The only thing that sucks about men's bathrooms is that they always stink. But from my experience, the seats are usually cleaner because men don't squat and spray lol

Only if it's a single stall one. Like at coffee shops and such.

I wouldn't want to come out of a stall and see a man using the urinal. I would feel like I was invading his privacy. I imagine most men wouldn't care that much, but even so, I wouldn't blame them if they did.

um ok i feel in these kind of situations its ok for men and women to share a bathroom. you know if you have to go you have to go and sometimes you have to go now and the gender correct toilet is unavailable now. so thats ok whether its a man in the ladies or vice versa. but thats different from having a unisex bathroom where men and women are allowed at the same time.

I wouldn't. The men's washrooms always smell particularly funky. I mean the women's washrooms are bad enough, but the men's washrooms....

Right now I usually cram myself into a family washroom when I take the girls out for the day so DH can get stuff done or use the handicap washroom if my older daughter isn't with me and I have the baby.

Yep, done it. Will do it again if I need to. Even a multi stall one time.......less embarressing than wetting myself!!

If a guys gotta go, I figure they are welcome in the womens. At least womens rooms tend to have stalls with doors and no one doing business in the open. We don't have seperate places for gays, what's the difference?

My mom used to take me into the men's room a lot when I was a kid. She was not waiting in the ladies room lines. I have used the men's if the woman's room was not available etc. I could care less.

I've used the men's toilet here and there, usually if it's a single stall with a lock. I've only once used a men's toilet where it was a multi stall room and that was at church after hours and the cleaning lady was cleaning the women's room.

I'd be fine with men in the single stall women's rooms but it would be weird for them to be in the multi stall women's rooms. Not like I'd tell them off or complain to the establishment but I'd feel uncomfortable.

Have done, only when there are no men in there at all. Hope you must live in a better resourced part of Australia than me. Usually I can only find mothers rooms in shopping centres, generally I take boyo into disabled toilets while out.

I'll pee in the bush if necessary. My peeing claim to fame is the roof of a well known British politician's house. It's a long story.

I only really go into mothers rooms now. When my toddler goes, I go haha. I do prefer to go to the women's if there are multiple stalls and they are specifically signed male or female. Here in Australia the single stalls at the park or beach are generally unisex.

I've done it. Generally because the ladies was either completely unavailable or totally unusable. But I don't think it's a big deal. I'm fine with sharing ours with men if necessary. I don't really understand gender segregated bathrooms, particularly single toilet washrooms, as a rule. It makes little sense to me.

I wouldn't really care, when you've got to go you've got to go. I have a hard time believing people are chilling in toilet stalls for no reason.

Yep, fair game. Believe it or not, they tend to be cleaner stalls than the ladies room. Women can be pigs sometimes.

As I've said before though, I'll pee in a sink if I have to. My bladder has issues and if I gotta go, I gotta go.

I've also mastered the outdoor hiking/running pee. I even did it on the ledge of a mountain in Arizona.

I've done it, yes. If the line is long, and there's nobody waiting in the men's, then why not? Especially if they're single washrooms, where there wouldn't be any other men in there at the same time.
