Ok, so this is rather personal. I am curious who shaves, waxes, trims, or goes Amazon! I used to wax, but after giving birth, I am to embarrassed to have it done. Sooooo....I started shaving the other day. I worry that it is going to get really thick! And it is uncomfortable to shave. Any suggestions?

I was agreeing with you which is why I said most hair ( underarms , nose , ears ect) is there to trap bacteria to protect :) I just dont think it is as needed in the vaginal area as it might have once been when we were wild , naked and unbathed and with the added danger of synthetic clothing and underwear being a breeding hotspot for bacteria that thrives in hot moist areas like pubic hair I think less is definately better but for some none is perfectly fine.

The body has many defenses ...I guess if a person finds personal hygeine an issue or is prone to infections or abnormal vaginal flora then having that extra defense is worth it , Pubic hair or the lack of it affects everyones genital health differently we just have to know what our bodies need and what it can handle without it becoming detrimental to our health all I know is when the clit isnt bushed out the Orgasm is a a hell of a lot stronger for me .

All i know is that i shave because it's what i prefer. When i have let it go while pregnant and after wards when i got to lazy it got an odour that i didn't like so now i regularly shave just to keep it, what feels to me, cleaner.

"Excessive pubic hair traps grime, discharge, sweat and bacteria that can lead to an unpleasant smell. Consider either trimming the pubic hairs short or removing the hair altogether to aid in eliminating the smell. Trimming or removing pubic hair prevents the likelihood of trapping foul odors and makes proper cleansing easier."

I know this is also true of underarm hair and that hair in open areas like our ears and nose is there to protect and to trap the bacteria and dirt from going inside however I do think in this day and age we dont have as much as a need for it in the genital area condsidering we now have showers , underwear and clothing .

I wax because it doesnt trap bacteria and smell and it hightens sensitivity around the clitoris .....It's never been about the look although in summer I prefer not to have a lady beard hanging out the sides of my swimmers.

Vicki...I had my fiance "groom" me when I was pregnant. I didn't want to be so out of control when I gave birth, save me some dignity.

Any chance you'd trust the baby's dad with grooming?

I was so obsssed with my hairless coochie that I had my husband help me shave it! LOL he did it weird I know but I did not want a bush! Funny thing was the Dutch doctors and midwives were like don't shave....whatever.... I said! Also I don't think they do that much here because when the docs have looked at my coochie you can tell they are a bit surprised of it's lack of hair. It is just my thing, I don't like hair on my body at all except my head and eyebrows :) I Don't shave my arms but i have light hair but if it was dark I probably would!

I have a hell of time shaving it all off anyway - I get a shitload of red bumps and it hurts and NO it doesn't matter what product I use to lather, nor does it help how slow I go, how much I apply, how hard I press, what the water temperature is....... my coohie sees that razor and gets angry!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol and then I too get the itchy growback feeling but its worse - it gets irritated even more by underware or even wearing pants......... omg. It's just something I rarely do anymore because of this. And no, I refuse to wax....... I think it would fall off and chase me around!

I believe the link says, "excess public hair", not normal pubic hair.

I was speaking about the actual function of pubic hair on a woman's body. There are many theories, but a very popular one, as I said before, is that it protects you. There is also one that says it keeps us warm and is a place for pheromones to waft from to stimulate/attract a woman's partner...

It is, a very popular theory.. one that many o' vulvovaginal docs share. Here's some links as well....

"And, yes, pubic hair has a purpose – it blocks bacteria from getting into your vagina."

http://www.girlslife.com/post/2009/05/15...

"Others believe that the purpose of pubic hair is to prevent dirt from entering the vagina."

http://www.smartersex.org/sexpert/answer...

"Also, pubic hair may catch and prevent everyday bacteria from entering the body."

Actually, it is a very popular theory with experts that pubic hair does exactly the opposite of trapping bacteria...it is generally believed it is there to protect us.

It is one of the reasons I don't go completely bald. When I have, I tend to get infections and it itches like crazy growing back. Not to mention, my fiance said his ex used to get these massive in-grown hairs from waxing...nasty.

I read in one of my books, it may be outdated, that the FDA doesn't approve of home waxing...don't know why, but I'm guessing they might be worried about a misplaced drip of wax. Ouch!

It's very expensive about $200 a pop for under arms and braz. It took I think 20 goes at 8weeks apart but if you add up waxing it evens out. I left a strip which I shave off if I feel like being bald. It's most effective on people with light skin and dark course hair. I did it because I don't like hair on me, my husband on the other hand is a hairy beast which is fine by me.

Well it was never a fad thing for me i just like it hairless or a landing stripe neatly trimmed. I also like my man hairless! I asked him to shave his and he did it and now he does it all the time :) I just think it looks attractive. I have to say after 3 kids my Vagina is one part of me I still find to look okay :) Now my tummy and boobies well....that is another story.

haha I used to wax then I got laser. Never have to worry about that again. Had it under my arms too.
Corinne my husband has caught me waxing but I only had the mirror and he didn't see the wax on the bench. The look on his face was hilarious as he said you might want to lock the door if you're going to do that. Later I asked what he thought I was doing, he thought I was having a bit of fun by myself. With a mirror? I wanted to know why he wouldn't join in. haha

I epilate legs and pits but shave down there, not brave enough yet to take the epilator there! Tried waxing it but I bleed badly, even legs and pits :( although I use wax on my baby beard (never got shut of it!) While prego? Shaved. My hubby once walked in on me once while I was weildina an angled mirror and razor with my foot up the wall. Face was monumental!

I wax...I have a Brazilian AND I do it myself!!
When I was pregnant with the twins couldn't do it so I was going somewhere to get it done. Also, shaved my legs while pregnant since I didn't had a lot of hairs.
Now I'm back to waxing myself. :)

JuLeah - I don't shave because it's "the thing to do" - I do it because it cuts down on the odour. When I let the hair grow, I find I have more odour down there (well duh - vag juice trapped in the jungle!), and who wants to munch a stinky hole?!? I prefer it clean and sweet - and so does he. ;)

Shaving does NOT make the hair thicker, coarser, or any other myth that people seem to mistakenly believe. Anyway, I shave and have since I was about 18. I did go amazon when I was hugely pregnant and couldn't reach, but as soon as I was able to, I shaved again. I sometimes leave a landing strip, or I've tried making a heart a few times, or sometimes I go totally bald.

I keep it shaved around the edges so it doesn't lurk out of thongs like a Woogie or Sea monster and keep it trimmed so it doesn't jump out either...... ewww..

Deoderant for your cheeses......

I know Loureen has mentioned before that those "vag deodorants" work well for her, as I'm sure they do for some people (the fact that I actually remember that is probably an indication that I spend way too much time on here). I'd just like to put a healthy vaginal health warning out there for others - a large amount of people also find that those vag deodorants can also disturb the natural PH balance of the lady parts and cause nasty yeast infections (or other nasty things). I just want to pass it along because this is what the majority of books and vulva/vaginal docs I've seen have said as well.

Just trying to keep the tacos cheese free if you know what I mean...

As far as grooming, it really depends on how much of a bush ya got. I mean, if it is out of control, you might need to get out the big dogs.

Personally, those same docs/books I mentioned before say that the hair is actually there for a reason - to keep certain elements outta the ole cooch. I think there is a happy medium though, a small amount of shaving and trimming when you have an average amount of hair down there won't hurt.
