Do you celebrate Valentine's Day? Do you just get cards or do you go all out, babysitter, dinner, etc?

We do cards, most of the time, he does flowers, when he remembers, (usually at the last minute from the scraps at the gas station lol ) babysitter and dinner? HA! We do that once or twice every 4 months and sitter my butt. I leave my kids with family or a trusted friend. (usually my dad as I trust him) I do try to give him something a little extra in bed that night though. I think that counts. Other than that. Not really.

My husband started a tradition a few years ago and it seems to have stuck. I haven't really ever bought into the whole thing, and have always let my husband know it. However, he came home the first V-Day after we bought our house with the biggest, tackiest basket filled with the tackiest gifts he could find. I laughed so hard, and couldn't believe that he took the time to put something like that together for me. I love tacky gifts. I think my favorite part of that basket were the candle holders he bought that started peeling the second I touched them. Now every year I get a basket filled with tacky gifts, and I mean the stuff that you still see sitting in the stores 2 months after VDay because no one in thier right mind would buy it, and some form of chocolate.

We do buy something little for our son. Nothing major, just something little. And that is really only because my parents buy him something, so we do as well.

And Sara, I totally want to do the pie in the face thing.

Other than in elementary school when you have to buy your entire class valentines cards, I've only celebrated valentines day once. It was the second valentines that I had spent with my at the time boyfriend, and I don't plan on celebrating it ever again. I'm not a card person, and nor am I the type of person to listen to people coo over each other. lol

We don't go too crazy with it, but we went out last year, and this year we'll probably go out for dinner. We only go out to eat a couple of times a year, so it's something I look forward to. :) (We got gift cards for a restaurant 2 years in a row at Christmas, so we use that.)

Not really. It'd be fun but we celebrate heaps of other stuff during the year.

LOL, Joy. We usually just have one pie each. It's a blast, I'm telling ya...

OK, after reading the pie in the face thing....we may have to start celebrating Valentine's Day THAT way ROFL! I've always wanted a pie smashed in my face too Sara!!! Just never had the reason or opportunity to do it. I could see how it would be cathartic. Do you do several pies or just one each? I think if we did it, we'd have to have a few "test" pies each (like maybe just with whipped cream) and then one "good" pie each lol I'm gonna ask Steve when he gets home from work in the morning.......

We don't really do Valentine's Day. I do, however, use it as an excuse to eat lots of chocolate lol

this will be our first valentine's day as a married couple/parents so no idea what we'll be doing. won't really matter because it's a monday and hubby has to work so i guess we won't be doing anything. hubby doesn't do the flower thing with me for some stupid reason. it kinda pisses me off because he always went all out with his girlfriend before me but he's only bought me flowers once as an apology. he bought me a diamond necklace for valentine's day one year, though, so i guess it's okay. she didn't get diamonds that i know of. but she probably did, and was a bitch and threw them away because that's the kind of harpy she was...

Every year we rent the hotel suite we had one our wedding night. It started out as a surprise my husband decorated the room with rose petals on the bed, wine and cheese, and candlights and rosses in the jucuzzi. Now its just a tradition we do it every valentines.

You know what? My hubby surprised me one year because I had always joked about how i wanted a pie smashed in my face, and honestly it was the best gift ever! It really helps you work through any kind of anger you may have with your spouse and releases it. Plus, you laugh your ass off. :D

Oh, and here's a tip: Don't do it in front of your children, especially if they're small. My daughter was 16 months last year when we did it and she cried like we were hurting eachother...wasn't good. This year, I think we'll wait until she's in bed.

Our traditional celebration since we were dating has been to have heart shaped pizza. Either we go to Boston's Pizza or I'll make my own. This year however our son is due on Valentines Day. So if in fact, that is D-day, yes we will have a baby sitter for our daughter, And yes I'll give him a gift. And I bet he'll bring flowers!!!! ha ha. As for the pizza--- I guess we'll have to see!

We smash cream pies in each other's faces for V-day. I'm serious. We refer to it as "Smash a pie in the one you love's face" day. No gifts, no romantic dinners, just pie in the face. It's quite cathartic, really. Don't knock it 'til you try it. We look forward to it every year.

We celebrate with a weekend away at the sea or in the mountains. I don't get into crowded dinners or flowers. I hate cards--I can't keep them all, and I feel crappy tossing them out after the holiday; feels like spending $6 just to add to the landfills. Hubby used to get me jewelry, but that made me feel bad because I never got him anything as great in return--there are only so many electronics you can buy for a man.
So we decided we prefer a quiet weekend together away from everything. Few people travel this time of year, so it is perfect for quiet walks along the shore, or hours by the fire place looking at the mountain view and chatting.

We just think of it as a day. We love each other every day so do you really need to set this one aside?

[deleted account]

We don't normally celebrate but this year we will be. We got movie passes and a free night of babysitting for Christmas so we're going to take full advantage. SO looking forward to it!

It depends. We don't go out of our way to celebrate, but if it happens it happens sort of thing. Some years we give eachother cards, my husband gets me flowers and we got out for dinner. My husband works on Valentine's Day this year and I don't know when his day will be done. Technically, love can be celebrated any day of the year though.
