Agnosticism is not in any way a religion. It is a very individualized set of beliefs about the possibilities of the universe. You'd be hard-pressed to find two agnostics who share all the same ideas at all. As an actual agnostic (atheist) I've never met another agnostic atheist who sees things like I do at all. Religion generally requires at least a loosely agreed upon dogma, I believe.

I have to somewhat disagree with you Tracey, I have met some pretty hardcore agnostics that had absolutely no tolerance what so ever, and they were extremely rude about it.

Agnostics are people who don't believe in a god, but don't deny the possibility. I wouldn't call them religious. It's Atheists who believe in no possibility of a god ever having existed.

I do not see any reason to respect a religion. I'll always be polite to its followers, at least as much as possible depending on how they present themselves to me. But I don't see any reason to respect a religion. If I find it laughable, I'll say so. If I find it has all the same trappings of Zeus turning into animals in order to have sex withhumans, I'll say so.

Jen,

When you say never respected are you referring to the very real reality that no religion can live within respect of each other?

or

are you saying that you can not respect any other religion?

I simply do not understand what you are saying.

i agree, no man woman or child should be persicuted or belittled for their beliefs. That is one of the reasons for which our founding fathers created this country, among many others. That is why i cant stand when ppl post that when you cross the border here you get everything america has to offer, as opposed to other countries around the world that just shoot you or jail you for like 100 yrs. but thats a whole other debate lol

I think this quote says it all.

All religions, or lack there of, should be accepted and respected. I do not like the word tolerated. It just has a negative connotation to it. Like is I were to say that I tolerate Atheism. I feel like I am saying Yeah I will put up with your crap. I do not feel that way so, I try to stay clear of the word tolerate.

Every man must get to Heaven in his own way. One can not walk MY path and get to Heaven. This is MY path, those are MY footprints and NO you can not have them. The road to Hell is a mile wide but, the path to Heaven is single file.

Even those who are non-believers should seek peace for their soul. That is what Heaven is. Heaven is peace for your soul. Heaven can be what you want it to be, God or no God.

Hope, God reveals God's self to people in all religions, that is what spiritual connection is all about - speaking as a Jew here - but having learned about and studied many religions

Now Hope I would have to disagree with you, my husband is a southern Baptist while I am agnostic something. I have found my oath to God, I know that he is there and what not, but my husband is still on that path. He is the most faithful person I know. God may reveal himself to you, but also must find him first.

Of course that is my personal belief. Johnny is right no two agnostics think alike :P so glad everyone seems to like the quote I found him the other day and love his writings. They call him the stoic poet.

Good luck with that. Sadly, not every religion is created equal. If it was then Jesus' sacrifice would have been unnecessary. Take some time to really find facts acrediting or discrediting the Bible: historically, scientifically, theologically etc. Ask God to reveal Himself to you and really search for Him with your heart and mind. See what happens in your life, circumstances, and heart. Christianity is the only "religion" where man doesn't try to get to God, but God reveals himself to man. Look for God and you will find Him. ( I "religion" because its not a religion, but a relationship.)

I love this quote! Though, the only religions I tolerate, are those that don't infringe on my own, meaning they don't actively try to convert me, or openly hate me for my beliefs.

I read in this that there are many paths to God. Whatever is right for that person, is right for that person.

We don't get to tell others what is right for them

I read, all ways to understand and believe must be tolerated, becuase not all follow a 'religion' and not all believe they will end up in heaven

I agree with Johnny and Tracey.

That quote is something I live my life by. Everyone needs to find their own path. Sometimes that path is one that is very well traveled. Sometimes a person needs to go cross country, pull out the machete and go bushwhacking.
Unfortunately, some people end up on the wrong path for them and never find the right one.
The journey is more important than the destination, especially because no one knows what the final destination will be.

I like the quote if it used the term "belief" instead of religion. Everyone has beliefs, not everyone has religion. Tolerance should not be reserved for those that do.

I agree with it. It doesn't state that everyone must have a religion, just that all religions must be toleratd. As Cathy said, "live and let live".

I suppose it is nice for those that follow some sort of religion, and it would be nice for everyone to tolerate EVERYONES beliefs, not just religious. I suppose it is pretty harmless...
