I came across this site and thought it relevant with all of our being green talk lately. So what does your home rate?

I got a 0 for our old house in HI (we're still waiting to get a house this time around) and nothing for transit. That made me giggle though b/c people thought I was making stuff up when I told them I had to move home b/c I had no license at the time and my husband would be gone a year and I didn't know anyone.. I literally would have been stuck at our house for a whole year w/o going anywhere.. Unless I wanted to take a 3 hour walk to the bus stop for a 5 minute drive to the store (5 minutes from the bus stop). Big fat goose egg..

I got a 58 and it did get my transit, but I'd have to generally disagree. I don't use my car except to get to work, for family outings and once every month for toilet paper. My doctor is also located a long way away, so when I need to see him I use the car. I used to live down the block from him, but when I moved, I really didn't want to switch doctors. I'm not sure what they give their score based on, but quite a few of my neighbors don't drive at all and manage just fine. I would like a fish shop I could walk to though....

Our apartment scores a 51. Should be a bit higher, since they left out several places that are less than a mile away. I have no problem walking several miles if the weather is cool enough. I take my son in his stroller and walk to the grocery store. We haven't gone on foot lately, as its been over 110F (43C) during the day here, and about 98F (37C) at night, but once the weather cools off in a few months, we'll be walking again.

Mine can't be correct either....it didn't calculate transit. Other than that though, there's nothing super close by for shopping....and IGA and 7-11 about 2km from my house. UPSIDE: we live in an amazingly beautiful area with tons of trails and green....people walk a ton, just not to go shopping! lmao.

Mine sucked...65...

I plan to move to Chicago tho...which is the 4th most walkable city in the country...so, that will be better!

Oh jeez, I got a 5! What can I say, I live in the middle of no where.

Top 10%=84

My house=54

Avg =53

But it's not very accurate. Like, says drug store is a mile away-thats the hospital. The two drug stores that are less than 5 blocks away aren't listed... There's no transit data but I live next to 4 TARC stops... Parks, I live next to the baseball park-which is huge... but it took me to the southern part of town for a water park....

Something's not right here. :/

I got a 32, but I live in the boonies and they've left out some places. There is a big 0 for transit, yet my village has a bus stop in both the North and South bound directions;)

Mine is 33 (even though we have a lot of stores nearby - Walgreens, Raley's, Safeway, banks, video stores, etc.)

Our old apartment is 37 (makes sense... the nearest store was all the way down a long - and ghetto - street... thus the move. I thought our new house would be higher than this though...)

My parent's house is 43 (hmmm... I guess since it is in the middle of the small town, but on the outskirts of the town. Mostly residential, but you could walk if you really had to)

Mine didn't have our bus stops either. There's 6 within 2 blocks of me. Nor did it have right a few things.

Nearest park it says is 4 kms away. We have one a block away.

Nearest cinema it says is the drive in. Which is outside the city, on the opposite end. There's at least 3 that are a lot closer, there's 7 in total just within the city.

Could be because not everything is available online for them to pull all the right info.

we chose our house specifically for walkability...we don't have a car and I don't know how to drive. Subway is kind of essential

Sharon - posted on 07/21/2010

lol NOTHING is within walking distance of my house - a rattlesnake maybe - but no stores! I didn't bother to enter my address.

I got a 23. My community is tucked in some hills with lots of windy roads, so it does take awhile to get places. The nearest grocery store is 1.2 miles away, but I've done the walk before, it's only about 40 minutes.

But everywhere else I've lived before (besides my hometown which was super small and got a score of 51) got an 80 or above. And I do miss it, I miss being able to walk to the bar with friends and not worry about a car, or walk to meet my friends for coffee, etc. IT'd be nice to teach Paige that we can walk places, too, instead of depending on a car.

my transit didn't show up either. although, it would just be bus stops, no subway here!

I got a 25 - which is odd, considering there's a shopping center about .5 miles from here.
(home depot, walmart, hair / nail place, ice cream store, asian restaurant, verizon store, gcf donation store, 3 gas stations and a burger king - plus more- all in the shopping center.)

Maybe it's b/c you have to walk Rt 86 to get to it.....

Jenny - posted on 07/21/2010

It's an American site so maybe that's why. My transit didn't come up either.

Isobel - posted on 07/21/2010

I got an 80...but for some reason the TTC didn't show up, since I have 2 subway stations within a 5 minute walk and 4 bus stops...I think our score would've been higher
