What would you do?

You are skiing in Colorado looking for black "rocks", when you look down and see something else glistening in the snow. It's a huge yellow diamond. You shrug it off a costume jewelry, but put it in your pocket just in case. When you get home you have someone look at it and find out it IS indeed real. A 12 carat yellow diamond.

What do you do?

This man gave it back.

I would feel so bad if I kept it and it wasn't mine.....I would return it. My question though, why did this lady take it off of her finger and forget it was there?? If I had a ring like that I would be checking my hand every second to make sure it was still there :P

I was thinking the same thing. In the interview they ask him, "Why did you give it back?"
He say's, "Well, because it wasn't mine."

Enough said :)

If it was my diamond ring missing I'd want someone to do the right thing and hand it in. Once my engagement ring fell off when I flung my hand because I'd lost weight and didn't get it resized, so I can understand how easy it is to lose something. So I'd do the same.

If I could find the person it belonged to I would return it without a thought. Well I would think, what if I don't find the owner? but who wouldn't.

I would give it back if the person could prove it was theirs. After 6 mos. I would sell it and put the money in my kids college fund.

Give me a reward in money...not a place to stay...I already have that :$

The owners let them stay at their (I believe) ski resort for a week.

I'd return it. Like I tell my son - when you find something, that means someone else has lost something.

I'd return it.

As much as we could use the money and as much as I'd enjoy the panache of owning a fat ass rock like that - I'd feel 1000 kinds of nasty if I kept it. It is someone elses' treasure. Its their heirloom, their declaration of love from someone else, or something they worked for... no matter what it isn't mine.

I will be honest and say I don't know what I would do. I think I would actually need to be in the situation to know for sure.

I would give it back, but you better believe I would expect some sort of reward! That is a big fucker...they got money....and yellow diamonds are rare.

I'd give it back, but I would REALLY hope that the owner would be so impressed by my moral integrity that she'd give me a big fat reward! :)

I have a very annoying, naggy, little voice in my head that makes me feel guilty about everything. I wouldn't be able to keep it, cuz my conscience would get the best of me. ;)

I'd have to give it back. I'd hate to do it, but I'd feel too guilty keeping it.

If something serious was happening financially, like expensive chemo treatments or surgery, or if our house burntdown, etc etc, I'd keep it. Sad but true. Otherwise I'd give it back.

Last week I found a bag from the pharmacy with a Xanax prescription inside. I would've loved to have it, but I gave it back to the pharmacy.

She had put it in her lap and then forgotten it was there. When she stood up it fell off. But good point. I mean 12 carats is nothing to joke about.

I am pretty sure I would return it. I was on the bus on my way to school one day and I was on the upper level of a double decker bus. There was no one else up there and I saw that someone had left some pretty fancy camera equipment.

I took it down with me and handed it to the bus driver.

I needed the good karma more than the camera equipment.

Now if my kids were starving and it was money, that would be another story...

I like to think that I would return if for no other reason than to set a good example for my child...but man, I bet that could pay off at least a little debt. It would be tempting to keep it, but I do think I'd return it in the end...
