Would you ever go on the show Wife Swap? if so which kind of family or customs would be your worst nightmare? Would you participate out of respect for the family or protest?

I think it would be a fun experiment to try but I would never actually go on the show. I can't think of anything that would be too out there to make them be my worst nightmare, and I would participate. If you're going to do it then do it with an open mind. I like watching that show and it drives me insane when the people don't want to participate - well then why the fuck are you on the show, stooge?!?!

Amanda Phillips.....wanna come and clean and organize my house??? You sound like my mom....she gets more done in a half an hour then I do all day working my hiney off!!

No way in hell would i go on that show. They would throw me in with carnivores. I dont want some mom coming in my home thinking giving my daughter meat is ok. I would have a fit if someone fed my daughter an animal without her being old enough to make that decision for herself.

I wouldn't go on the show simply because I don't want my life and family showcased on television. I'm just private that way. And we're not that interesting anyways! :) My worst nightmare would be you, Amanda! haha, just kidding. But a super-anal family who had to have everything just so and the house in perfect order and a down-to-the minute schedule would drive me absolutely batty, because that's so not me. I'd try to participate, but I think I'd try to get them to see that some spontanaity and a little bit of mess can be fun sometimes too! I wouldn't participate in religious rituals that directly went against my own beliefs, but other than that, I'm game to try most things once.

YES!! I would love to Wipe Swap with someone from another country. All my friends here are too much alike with their lifestyles. My worst nightmare would be like being the wife slave where the kids and husband do fuck all around the place. I would totally participate for the fun of the show. But make hilariously judging comments the whole time. Wife Swap USA is my favourite show of all time. But I agree they seem to pick the most extreme people/extreme opposites for entertainment value.

Oh goodness, when I saw this topic, I didn't realize it was about a tv show. It was a few comments in when I realized you weren't talking about what I thought you were. I thought that wife swapping was when people went to a party and put all their keys in a bowl and the women took out a pair and that was the man they went home with, for sex.

I don't have tv, but it sounds like this is a very different type of wife swapping.

Yeah, we are not extreme in any way so they wouldn't have us on. I would totally do it though, I just love to see how other people live, it's so interesting to me. The other mom would hate coming into my house though... I'm not much of a cleaner (especially with a new baby). And I wouldn't look forward to going into a home where the mom spends all day cleaning. I'm lucky if I have the energy for half an hour!

I wouldn't do it unless I was paid a lot of money to participate. I have seen how some of these familes run.

I wouldn't go on the show...but I do like how they match up ppl who do things completely different...if they were open-minded it could give them a different perspective on things and makes them appreciate "their" way when they get home, I think? I would not participate in a family where MOM does EVERYTHING! Currently I do most, but I get help~more now since my husband's been laid off. I just could not get behind walking into a slave situation :/ That would turn into a "teachable moment" by me for the family! ;)

Not a chance in the world lol. Some of those families are complete whack jobs.

It says before they show the US version on UK tv : "Unlike the British version of this show, some scenes are scripted"

Or words to that effect anyway!

No, I wouldn't go on the show. Fun to watch sometimes, but I wouldn't actually go on it! lol

LOL Loureen, that's the same reason I love it, because of the crazies. It's like watching a train wreck, you just can't help it. I wouldn't go on it, I'm happy with the way things are here.

I also agree about the difference between the US and the UK version - in the US they seem to deliberately match up such extremes that it is going to be full of drama. I like to see people learning something from it. I mean, why bother if you aren't going to at least give it a go. You HAVE to know if your lifestyle is a little on the extreme side that whoever comes into your home is going to want to make changes you probably wouldn't like......why go on it if you are going to be all up in arms about it?

OMG I love wife swap but only because those people are CrAzY 0_o no way would I go on the show

Amanda - posted on 12/31/2010

No I wouldn't go on it. Why, because there is no way another mother could come into my house and do the things I do to the way I want them done. I'm a very anal person when it comes to raising my children and the way I clean and organize my house. I'd hate to come home to it messy or trashed because some other women thought I was uptight, and tried to turn my children into little wild animals! Lol....and I would absolutley hate to be put into a super relaxed, dishes piled up, dead bugs in the corners of dusty floors, toliets so dirty you can't tell when you flush them home! Ugh it makes me sick just htinking about it! Lol....so no...I don't even want to begin thinking about the reality of the show since I know I would NEVER do it! :)

Becky - you make a good point. The American version started off as a show where the participants would often come out with a fresh perspective on parenting, their families and their place in it after experiencing life in a family that does things differently. Unfortunately now, they (the American Wife Swap show) seem hell-bent on finding the wierdest, most extreme, craziest families, and figuring out who would absolutely hate each other, and matching them up. Over the past few years this has disintegrated into grown people acting the fool and yelling obsenities at one another in front of children.
Another great idea that caved to sensationalism. Sad.

I would love to see how someone els coped with "being me" In the english version the mums often come out with a different outlook on there lives which can be really positive.

I guess when your in your life its hard to see another perspective but someone with completely different ways can give you that.

My worst nightmare would be a family in which the children's needs didn't come first, i would find it really hard to follow the rules.

No, very happy with my own, and the other wife might like mine too much an become a stalker...

I just looked this show up and dude(!), I wouldn't participate in this show unless I was paid large, large sums of money. I would hate to be placed in a patriarchal, religious and conservative/far-right family. Anything with so much as a whiff of misogyny or bible-thumping would make my head explode. If I signed up for the show willingly, then yeah, I'd participate in the "rules" so long as no real harm resulted from them. If there were violence toward, or outright derogatory treatment of, any individual or animal in the household then I'd be protesting my ass off.

C. - posted on 12/31/2010

Would I? Probably not. I wouldn't know who my family ended up with and how they raised a family, so I'd be too scared.

Um, I can't really say anyone would be my worst nightmare, really. I try to get along with all types of people.

It would depend on what they did. If they sacrificed animals for some kind of ritual, then no I wouldn't join in their 'fun' and probably would protest at that point (and I'm not the public protesting kind, really). Anything else, just depends on what it is and the situation. But like I said, I'd probably never do it.
