Wine(for fun)

[deleted account] ( 71 moms have responded )

Apparently wine drinking is on the rise. I can see why, its delicious, great for your health, and makes you feel all classy when you break out the glasses. So, whats your favorite wine(if any) and why. If you don't drink wine, whats your favorite alcoholic beverage?

Hester? I don't know. It's probably too expensive. Selling to other provinces is not that easy for some of the smaller wineries. If they were going to go there, it would probably be just in restaurants.

Pinot Noir is one of those wines that if it's good, it's REALLY good.

If it's bad, it's like drinking something that's been left on the floor of a barn overnight.

It's not a wine where you can just go to the liquor store and pick up a bottle and go "Yeah, that looks good." You want to look up reviews first and find a name you trust. It's a damn hard grape to grow well. It's a very light-bodied wine, but the flavour is very intense.

I would recommend trying a Merlot if you're starting out with red wine. It's fruity and rich, and goes really well with veggie dishes. It's medium-bodied, so it's a nice wine for sipping and for enjoying slowly.

I prefer red to white. If I drink white wine, I like a Riesling or a Gewurtztraminer. Chardonnay grosses me out.

For reds, you can't go wrong with a nice Cabernet Sauvignon. I also enjoy Pinot Noir or a Sangiovese. For our anniversary, we got a nice bottle of Masi Modello delle Venezie. It was waaaaayyyy too smooth -- dangerously so.

I like a wine to be quite dry. If it's white, I want it nice and dry and crisp. For a red, I like something rich and chewy and complex.

The best was our wedding supper -- we went to Babbo, in Greenwich Village, and had the 7-course tasting menu. Each course was perfectly paired with a glass of wine (all Italian varietals, of course). The stuff we had with the cheese course was freaking amazing -- it was this amber-ish, half-sweet, half-woody wine, and it was just like ambrosia.

Lol, thanks! I also look like a teen ager, so it's mostly the compilation of things that make me appear to not be an adult! Oh well I'm only 22, maybe in time....

I'm a party pooper, I hate wine, I hate almost evey type of alcohol! I think it smells bad and tastes like nail polish remover. The few mixed drinks or coolers i like a little have so little alcohol in it and so much sugar it's like drinking a kool aid with some alcohol in it.

Personally I'd rather have the kool aid without the alcohol!

I've never been buzzed or tipsy or drunk. No intentions on it in the future either :)

I do feel like I'm less of an adult because I don't drink anything alcoholic at Christmas parties or fancy dinners, but I'm not going to force myself into liking alcohol just to fit in!

I also hate coffee, I guess I'm just not an adult in my taste buds :)

I miss drinking. I had to stop in my mid twenties for health reasons.

Since I became a mom, I've needed a drink now and then.

You like Guinness? I tried it when I was desperate for ways to bring my milk in when I was trying to breastfeed Logan and was kind of embarrassed to admit I liked it! Everyone else was like THAT IS GROSS EMMA!

I can't drink wine or beer...one sip and I'm puking my guts up.

It's rare that I drink anything alcoholic these days but when I did drink I liked vodka and cranbery juice or a rum and coke. Boring I know...

And for beer I like Shiner Bock and other dark ales. Nummy. My husband drinks girly drinks. His favorite? White Russians.

Well now, if we're talking about OTHER booze, I also have a list of loves:

Fave beers: Rickard's White, Hoegaarden, Boddington's, Sleeman's Honey Brown
Fave mixed drinks: French Kiss (a vanilla liqueur) and Pepsi. Mojitos (got completely shitfaced off of those one night). Rye and ginger (very Canadian, no?). GOOD Scotch on the rocks. And every once in awhile, I get a craving for a Long Island Iced Tea, or for a really spicy Caesar.

almost all wine can be great, summer i ike a bit of a light sweet and bubble, as tacky as it is i love the moscatos or champagne, winter a nice red not to dry though, a merlo, and if i'm having a glass with the girls a dolce is great, yummy

[deleted account]

Has to be white and fruity.I don't get to drink often but when i do, i enjoy it with a nice meal.Usually something with chicken.Goes lovely.

[deleted account]

I'm with Cathy red wine always tastes vinegary to me - I have a sweet tooth.

I really like fruity South African white wines, they tend to be winey but not too bitter, which I do enjoy. I'm not really much of a wine snob, I don't mind cheaper brands like Black Tower, in fact really if I am just having a couple of glasses at the end of the day (obviously when I am not pregnant or BF) then that is my wine of choice - it is gentle and tastes good and doesn't give me a hangover - even when I drink 2 bottles of it :-)

I am more of a spirit drinker than a wine drinker I love a Brandy and coke, Archers and cranberry juice or lemonade, Disarano and coke (mmm tastes like Dr Pepper yummy), malibu and coke, vodka and apple juice (my Polish friend introduced this one to me) and rum and coke.

Ah, I love cheap wine in Italy. When you can actually fit a large quantity of booze into your backpacking budget, you know you are in the right country.

[deleted account]

hey jennie I worked at the wine and orchard museums in kelwona! small world. never made it to oliver though and haven't tried hester.

back in ontario again and sooo miss the ok wines. fell in love with gewurtz there. and riesling. now we generally buy cheap. but not as bad as when I lived in italy. there my roomate and I had a deal to not buy wine over 3 euro. eventually we moved up to 5. ahh...good times those 5 euro wines!

I prefer white over red. Gewurtztraminer or a Riesling. No Chardonnay ever! Bleh, it's like licking cement.
When I do drink red, I like a Shiraz.
I don't really have a favorite brand.

woot. You should enjoy some on the patio at the winery some time. It is like heaven. It is also the only activity I am up for on a summer day in Oliver. HOT.

My favourite is Hester Creek (good old BC wine) because my dad is part owner so I get it for free. rofl. And it's actually really really yummy. I like the trebbiano. Refreshing and the label is pink. Yes, that matters to me.

I'll join that fireball party but it must include a campfire.

I live in a big wine region - the Okanagan. We have some of the best wine in the world right here in Kelowna. I prefer red but it stains my teeth so I generally stick to white. I prefer Pinot Grigio for white and a nice Shiraz for red or a Merlot.

I love wine, no scratch that... I love GOOD wine. It's quicker to list the wine I don't like: chardonnay (too bland) and merlot (too sweet), although in saying that, if they are good quality, I will at least try them. I try to drink wine as local as possible (I live in Australia) but that can be hard because a lot of varietals are better from certain regions or countries and I really like to try different types and brands. For example Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Noir are almost always excellent although I have recently been trying Australian Sauvignon Blanc and found some great ones from Orange in NSW and from Margaret River.

I grew up in a family of wine drinkers. One of my uncles runs a specialty import business as a side hobby and another uncle runs activities for the local Spanish wine club. I enjoy a very good red. But I can no longer drink more than just half a glass of regular $15 bottles from the liquor store. I get nasty headaches from that stuff. Last month a friend of my husband's brought us a beautiful red from Virginia (I didn't even know they had a wine country before) and we enjoyed the whole thing, no headache. So apparently while I am not a wine snob, my brain is.

I can drink cheap white in moderation though. We bottle our own and I drink it with sparkling water. Keeps the headaches at bay there too.

Now I'm more of a beer drinker. I enjoy all sorts of beers and we're going to check out beer fest this year. Should be fun, although I'd better make sure we have babysitting well into the nest day, lol.

I also like drinks that were last popular in the 70's, cinzano, sherry, port, and a few other apertifs. But on a hot summer day, there's nothing like a Bellini.

I haven't tried a whole lot of different wines. I'm more of a beer girl (weirdly though, the only beer I like is Hahn) but I like Chardonnay, Dolcetto, Pinot Noir, Margaret River Sparkling (whatever that is, I had it at the stone grill once). I hate Merlot, Shiraz, Moscato, Zibibo and Sav Blac.

I can't help it but I love a good Reisling. Yes, it's a dessert wine but I don't care! I LOVE IT! I also really like red zinfindels. There was one a while back that was FABULOUS but I haven't been able to find it recently called Cardinal Zin. GREAT wine. I'm not big on the chardonnays, though. Pinot Grigio is good on a hot evening...and a like a nice rose in the spring.

Yes, I'm a wine snob. :P
