My son has hypospadias repair done at 1.5 years...post operation, the catheter got blocked and would not void resulting in a fistula. We did a fistula repair surgery when he was 3 years old and again, the same thing happened after surgery. The earlier fistula remained closed but another fistula developed at a different location. Now he is 4, his penis looks normal and though he has two urine streams, he can use the urinal to pee standing up. Do we still need to put him through another surgery to get the fistula repaired. The doctors say we should for self esteem reasons when he is older. anyone who went through this? please let me know your opinions and experiance.

I can't tell you what to do, but I'd like the same advice! We are in the same boat although my son is not yet 2, he has had several operations and a fistula each time. He pees out 2 holes, but he is too little for me to know if this will work for standing to urinat. I am actually relieved to hear that your son has managed with it. It makes me want to quit these nonsense surgeries and leave it alone!
