my son had his first surgery at 7 months and then had a series of other health issues. He didn't potty train until 4 and that is when I realized there was a drip and a thin strong stream. We went back for 2nd surgery to fix the drip and the stream.

The stream seems more normal but the drip persists but not as bad....

After 6 -1/2 years - I want to know if it is normal, and his doctor says he is fine, but he said that after the first surgery too, and he really wasn't. How can they tell if anythingis wrong if they are not watching him pee?

Hi, our son is now 4. First stage repair at 9 months, second stage at 13 months. Toilet training was a long process. Has a very strong stream that shoots out towards the right and a drip too. He can manage to direct the stream once it starts. We have another follow up appointment with his surgeon this year. What age did your son have his surgery to fix the drip and the stream? We were told that our son has a "baggy urethra" and he gently squeezes after peeing to empty the wee from the tube. Perhaps your son could try this too? I'm not sure whether to have more surgery or not.

Oh Melissa that's terrible! I really feel for you and totally understand ... I wonder if it would be better for him to sit to pee? I know that it kind of defeats the purpose of having surgery in the first place. Have you spoken to your surgeon about your concerns? I too would get a second opinion. There should be no drip from anywhere except the tip with a baggy urethra. It would appear that the 2nd fistula repair was not successful. I truly hope that you find a solution that you can all work with. All the best :-)

Oh thank you for commenting...the drip is underside and yes it was a fistula repair on the 2nd time. I also was told the baggy urethra, unfortunately, I can't teach him to gently squeeze, as he is autistic and requires hand over hand training, and I just can't get over myself do it. I can't risk anymore anesthesia on him and as an alternate I am teaching him to wipe the toilet and floor clean after every visit to the bathroom...
Thanks for responding...

I would get a second opinion. my question would be is the drip from the tip or is it from the underside of his penis? My son's was clearly dripping from the underside while he was peeing from his meatus. We had the send surgery because he had formed a fistula.
