We just switched to a new gym that just opened bc it offers childcare. I attempted to bring him today, and he freaked out, clinging to me. He went to a childcare at another gym until he was 5 months old and I've been at home with him ever since.

How can I help him become more comfortable? Any tips, PLEASE!

thanks~ I actually did stay with him for a little while, and I had his "Olly" (blanket), but he saw my gym bag at the door and just KNEW I was about to leave. Mother-in-laws taking him for a while today, but I'm gonna make my second attempt at gym childcare tomorrow.

Plus- there were no kids there yesterday, maybe itll be better if there were other children to play with??

go to daycare with him!!!! i did this after my dtr had a hard time with it I spent about an hour with her and then we left period she felt more comfortable/ safe after that i also have a routine when i go she goes to the window and waves me byebye and she hasn't cried since. once she got to know the other kids and mom was with her so she had the reassurance of mom is here and made " friends" she will go up to them and play before i leave and i tell her its bye bye time and she goes to the window to wave. i also give myself 15- 20 minutes before i have to leave if i get out of there early i have time to grab a coffe if i spend them there i spend them there then i'm not rush and shes not rushed to leave

good luck and remember he really doesn't cry the whole time your gone he really does have fun at some point!

I had my own daycare for 10yrs and i had two children that cried when their parents drop them off, hopefully he'll bond with one of the providers and be okay! it's just all new for help and he's scared and unfamiliar he use to mommy that's all!

My daughter just started daycare at 18 months and did this. It has helped her to have her Dora doll, blanket and binkey. She still cries as I leave the room, but as soon as the door is shut I peep through the window and she is fine, playing with the other kids. I think she is just putting on a show seeing if I will take her with me, lol. I really think that any attachment to him like a doll, blanket, etc. will make him feel more secure. Good luck! It made me sad the first week dropping her off and her crying, I guess we both had to get used to it. :)

My daughter is 19 months and has been going to the SAME daycare since she was 8 weeks old, she just now started freaking out. When i go to leave she starts crying and won't let go of me. I started taking what we call her lilly bear, a blanket with a teddy bear that she sleeps with every night. It makes it easier for her to have like a transitional item, maybe you could try something like that with him. Hope this helps
