My Son 3 in Jan is oblivious to christmas. he is extremely smart but has receptive and expressive language delay so some things seem to just go over his head .. is Christmas one of them or at this age is it a bit much for them to understand that much ?
His first christmas we moved to Australia and were down with my family a the beach and on my mums farm and his second christmas my father came from france so we rented a villa up north and stayed on the beach and by the pool. This christmas we are headed back to the Uk for something a bit more traditional. Next christmas I really wanted to settle into our own routine as he will understand by then Im sure being nearly 4.

He doesn't like santa he doesn't scream but he looks at him with an evil glare and would not sit on his lap as he is just a stranger.

any tips on how to make him more involved ? last year I got him to help me make the tree( we always make a tree instead of buy one) last year it was a huge canvas and the tree was his brother and his hand prints as the leaves and he drew on the decorations with my help

My boy is an only kid also and he's seeing the decorations I've put out (christmas village indoors and lights outdoors) and he doesn't remember any of this from last year. But he is interested in all of it now. Even seeing cartoons on tv about santa, he doesn't know who santa is or why he should care. I'm not pushing santa either, I don't feel the need to encourage the commercialism side. Even with a kid with some delays, he's still going to probably be pretty much experiencing this for the first time where he'll remember anything, so it's all new to him. And not wanting to sit with santa is absolutely ok, since to these age kids santa really is just a stranger. Just do your traditions and ideas, involve him as much as you can, he'll remember the happy times with you more.

Hi linda, thanks for that makes me feel better. With Cameron's delay on understanding certain things I am not sure if he is just not interested or just doesn't understand. there are a few kids his age that are completely into christmas, so I just wasn't sure. but they all have older siblings. I spoke to my niece who is just over 3 and a half and she still doesn't show much interest in it.

My son Johnathon is turning 3 in Jan also and is pretty much the same he has noticed that more is going on but is not understanding why. I don't think there is anything unusual about this he does not really remember last year so I don't expect him to get into it till he has experienced it for himself.
