My baby girl has had diarrhea for over a week now. She has lost so much weight and has almost gone completely off her food. Does anyone have any advice to help her get through this. I've been told to give her lots of fluids, I had almost weened her, but I have brought her back to 3 breast feeds a day. I have cut out dairy completely. She eats toast, and a little bit of weatbix for breakfast and she has been eating apple fruit and vegetable purees. I have taken her to the doctor and given them a stool sample and am still waiting to hear back from them. I'm at my wits end. I just want her to get better. If anyone out there has some better strategies, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Culturelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I second the BRAT diet. Our twins had diarrhea for many weeks because of teething I guess but the doctors just didnt seem to be concerned since they were not dehydrated. I asked about lactobaccillus (sp?) and the doc suggested one capsul of culturelle (opened) dumped into applesauce or yogurt or something you know they will eat all of ONCE a DAY. It worked within a day and half!! Highly recommend!

The one twin had raging diaper rash.. which I will tell you the secret I wish I had known before hand..

Air dry behind well, slather on antifungal lotion(lotrimin), powder well with cornstarch powder, then buttpaste (dr boudreax?) heavily all over the powder and this makes a thick paste that is iron proof! I read this on a mommy forum and it worked instantly for the diaper rash!

We mixed pedialyte with water 1:5ish because our boys are so hyper sensitive to fruit juice. They have had no fruit juice at all for 2 months, just water. Just when everything seemed to finally work.. they got strep! and had to take antibiotics so back on the culturelle! Back on the butt paste! lol No getting ahead but the eye teeth are finaly in!

Hope all this helps!

My son did this a few months ago. you said u are still breastfeeding... that is still dairy and dairy aggravates the digestive tract... we had to go completly to the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. We had to be strict with this for about a week before we noticed a difference nothing else but Pedialyte and water to drink. Continued it for almost a month while adding other fruits and vegetables then slowly started to reintroduce light cheeses and yogurt and bland meat like chicken.

I don't think it's an allergy to her food, it doesn't seem to matter what we give her, she just seems to poop it out. It's only happened in the last couple of weeks, I haven't changed her diet at all..but I will definitely get to the doc if it keeps going on. There are always reasons for stuff like this!

Hate to say, but she might be allergic to wheat that is the toast or wheatabix. Our boy had constant loose bowels from too much soy milk. we gave it to him after i weened and got off soy formula. You really should go to the doctor/hospital if it continues!

She's gone off wetabix this week...seems to prefer pancakes. She still has diarrhea, now going on for 2 weeks straight. I thought that she was on the mend and then she threw up all over herself in the shops, and then it started all over again! *sigh* Yes, the lucky little girl is having lost of boobie :) Very lucky for a 17 month old little girl! I'll find out what the poo culture says this week, so cross fingers it's nothing. I've had some people tell me that it may be teething, no fevers, runny nose, and runny poos. I am so sick of diarrhea! Any more advice, I'd really appreciate. There are so many weird bugs going around lately!

i would reccommend bf as much as possible as if it is a bug you will be giving her more of a chance to get over it quicker with the antibodies that are in breast milk good luck lol

my daughter sufferd with it for about 3mth solid i found that wetabix agrivated it more. she didnt loose any weight or go off her food though. she saw a specialist and they advised that when they get a tummy bug it takes the bowls time to recover. whenever she has it now i give her porridge instead of wetabix as bit more natural. if she is loosing weight n off her food id try n get second opinion. good luck x
