my son has always been a very good eater, we eat healthy food so he is not extra chunky or chubby and he has so much energy it all burns off when he does. He has been ill and in the past few weeks has just picked at food. but in the last 3 days he just wants to eat and eat for example this morning he has 1 banana 2 weetbix 1 bowl of nutragrain, two poached eggs 1 piece of whole meal toast and 1 rash of grilled bacon !!! then we went to creche and he ate two cruskets ( tried to steal everyone else's food ) then just now he has come home ate a whole cheese cucumber and lettuce sandwich 2 slices of watermelon and is munching in dried apricots.!!! how can he not bee exploding ? he is loosing weight though and getting taller I guess its a growth spurt after being so sick but really this is more than a grown adult.. what am I going to do when I have two teenage boys?

I think your son is catching up for not eatting when he was sick! It also can be because he is going through a growth spur. my son was not a good eater but the past months he is the one telling me he want to eat, i say as long as he is eatting heathy why not let him eat.

my son used to eat really well. now he is super picky but would still eat alot. a few months ago though he would hardly eat for days (it was healthy food) and then some days he wouldn't stop. i was scared that it wasn't good for him but his pedi said that he is fine. he is just being picky. they told me in fact that he is in the 90th percentile for his weight. so im not too worried anymore. but now he is back on his regular eating schedule.

May be a growth spurt, but maybe he's just been making up for the lack of food whilst he was sick. My son has shown similar patterns to this when recovering from illness. On occasion I've even been the same myself! Basically though from everything I've read kids, like the rest of us, will have days when they are hungrier and others where they won't feel like much at all and this is perfectly normal.

However if it continues over a prolonged period and he continues to lose weight it may be worthwhile to have him checked out by a doctor to rule out worms or some other type of parasite.
