I took my daughters pacifier away at 15 months, I did it the mean way and made her do it cold turkey. She did fine until my son was born, now she tries to steal his. Her babysitter had a great way for the other children to get rid of theirs... she had a small dog who loved having pacifiers in her mouth so when the parents wanted the children off the pacifier Ms. Barb would ask them if they wanted to give it to the puppy and no one ever had problems with the bink again. Hope this helped.. don't give in he'll be fine.. he just needs to cry it out, or he'll find something else to chew on.

I never used a paci for my son. Its not that I don't believe in them. Its just, my little brother was like four when he gave his up. I said... not my son. So we never used them. I think that not having the paci for one night was a good start to getting rid of it. I feel that somewere between one and two is a good age to get rid of that thing. Of course, just my opinion. Your mom and you know when is best for your child......

my 2 year old loves his, although he has it less than he used to its still not easy to get thru the entire day with out him wantin it, he cries more for it from me than he does my partner and i think that is because he knows im more likely to give in and give it him where as nathan wont... we almost got him to give it up when the new baby came along and he decided he wanted it again and if we didnt give it him he would take the babys

I am wondering about this same thing! My son loves his binky! We only give it to him at bedtime, but sometimes he'll ask to go "night night" just to have his binky! We really want to try to get rid of it, but he's extremely vocal about wanting it at bedtime! And we're on such a sleep shortage anyways, we just can't manage to let him cry it out without one! Definitely looking for tips as well...

My DD decided for herself at 10 months old that she didn't want it anymore. Not that we gave it to her a lot. But usually before she went to sleep I gave it to her. But one day she just took it out of her mouth and threw it away and we never gave it to her again. It was very painless.
