My daughter's early childhood teacher said we should ignore our daughter when she has a major tantrum...just supervise so she doesn't get hurt...but don't let her know you're watching...my daughter's tantrums haven't become fewer yet but they definately don't last as long...maybe 30sec to a minute now....she knows we aren't going to give in or give her extra attention for the behavior.

I always ask my daughter to explain what is wrong. The more you remain calm during the tantrum the easier it is for both your daughter and you. Try to remain calm and try to calm your daughter by telling her to take deep breaths and asking her to vocalize what exactly the problem is.

Hey Lenka, This is exactly what I do if the situation gets out of hands. I ignore, it does work sometimes.

I found out with my son that ignoring him while having a tantrum helps.First,I ask him what the problem is but if he doesn't answer and just kicks and throws himself on the floor I know any reasoning is pointless. He calms down after few moments as he sees it doesn't take him anywhere

The Happiest Toddler on the Block (book) has helped me so much. I wont say that it works 100% but 80% of the time isnt bad. It has helped my husband & I alot with our 23 month old. That & lots of patience =). Hope this helps you.
