My three year old is potty trained but he is wetting the bed at night, I do not want to put pull ups on him at night. I am afraid that will make him lazy. What should I do?

My guy wet the bed pretty repeatedly for a few weeks when we 'did away with diapers' at his 3rd birthday. We considered pull-ups to be diapers too and so didn't want to use them (He was capable of going through the night without wetting with dry or near dry diapers many nights in a row. I've read the body shutting off night-time peeing is a chemical thing and some kids can't do it til later. If that was the case we would have certainly used pull-ups). He didn't like the sensation of wetting his bed and so started waking up to go pee in the middle of the night. Lots of bed changes the first few weeks. But now it is very very rare when he wets the bed. Usually only if he is sick with a fever. In my opinion pull-ups can be confusing, are expensive, and not always necessary.

I don't think it will make him lazy!! My daughter wears them at night just for that reason ( peeing the bed) Just tell him that he only get to wear them at night and in the morning they come off and he's back to wearing underwear!!! My daughter does just fine!!! or maybe limit his drink in take before bed might work or before you go to bed you could wake him to have him go pee but that might wake him for the night!!

if you are worried about the mattress I found a protector that encases the whole mattress at Kmart or Walmart

My mother in law gave me those place mats that old people use to not wet the bed. Luckily I never had to use them, but it's an idea. Good luck!

My 3yo didn't want to wear a nappy to bed, so what i was told to do, is if you get 10 dry nappies in a row, then there ready to go in jocks to bed, there was one accident in the first month after that nothing but i guess depends on each child there all different. Good Luck!

I never had that issue but my nephew did. and my sister made sure he stop doing at least 2 hours before bed and made sure he went to the bath room before he slept.

It wont make him lazy because my son has that problem and i havent had any issues when i put night time pull ups on at night. He even sometimes gets up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
