My husband and myself are Mexican fluent in Spanish and English. Since we were dating we have always spoke English to each other but now that we have children we want them to speak Spanish too. Well the problems is that my three year old watches and hears us speak English and now only wants to speak English. I speak to him in Spanish and he understands but does not know how have a conversation. Is it too late to teach him Spanish? How do I teach him to only speak Spanish now? I also have 11/2 year old and a 9 month old daughters... Please help.

just keep talking to him its never to late I moved to spain when I was 4 and was speaking it fluently before the end of 3 years at the american school . Make it fun let him talk back to you in english one day he will decided to try his hand as talking to you back .. what ever you do don't do what my dad did.. he was french and wanted us to learn french and spoke to us in french but every time we tried to respond he would laugh and tell us we said it wrong and sounded silly he didn't realise at the time but after that we never really wanted to try much .. praise him every time he tries..

my son has Mixed expressive and receptive language disorder so we are struggling with English heheh

If he understands you then I say he does know Spanish. I don't know where you live, but he is probably surrounded by people who speak mainly English. Just continue to have conversations in Spanish. When he answers in English just tell him what his answer should be in Spanish.
