Walking

I am just wondering how many of the January 2008 babies are walking. My little guy was a late crawler at 10 1/2 months and will be 16 months this weekend and is still not yet walking. He can climb, walk around the furniture, stand unassisted and attempts about 2 steps before falling. Doctor says not to worry until 18 months, but just wondering if there are others in the same boat.

Thanks,

My son is a speed crawler and walks along furniture and behind his baby walker or he pushes chairs or other things and walks that way, he refuses to walk assisted(with me or dad holding his hands) I guess he will do it in his own time. Don't worry about your baby, he will do it when he is ready, every baby is different.

i am in the same boat. my daughter just turned 18 months on saturday and no walking yet. she climbs anywhere and will walk holding on to furniture or wall but not on her own. she'll also stand without holding on and dance a little but won't take the step. Dr. has me going to a therapist twice a week and getting her blood test and neurologists. i think she is just delayed in that but doc seems to want to rule out any other possibilities so i go.

My son started at an early age of 10 months old and is an expert runner now haha! Every child starts at their own time and if his doctor isn't concerned and he's reaching all other milestones fine, I wouldn't worry.

My son (Jan 08 baby) finally started walking in March. I was getting worried too, because he'd been standing and walking along the furniture for months. Now it's like he's always been able to walk, and has very good balance and posture. Maybe your little guy is like my little guy and is just waiting to do it for good until he knows he won't mess up. Perfectionists.

I am happy to announce Cameron has finally started walking! Thank you to all the moms who made me feel a lot better during this time of waiting. He had taken steps for months (2, maybe 3) but would not dare try and more than that once falling. Wednesday June 3rd he decided he was done crawling and proceeded to walk around the house for the rest of the night. The rest is history! I fully believe they do things when they are ready, but I guess the most frustrating thing was that everyone always assumed he was walking, or assumes your baby is at a certain stage even though they may not be. They kind of make you feel bad about it when the first question they always would ask me would be "is he walking yet?". Thanks again everyone!

My son walked at 12 months, and my nephew didn't until he was 18 months. My son doesn't say much, though, whereas his cousin talks in whole sentences. My son is fearless and his cousin is more timid.

All children are different, so enjoy watching him try!

hi x my lil girl Amy-maia started walking @ 10 months but is not very clear with her speaking so they all develop their own way x i always remember what someone told me that we all worry about kids not walking, talking etc at supposed right times but by the time they get to school they are more less the same so we just need 2 chill and let them develop in their own time x

My daughter was walking at 8 months (no lying) but I know one of my friend's children is a year old and just started to really crawl at 11 months.

my daughter just started walking in march and up until then i was worried also...i bought "walking wings" which basically serve the same purpose as holding their fingers but it doesn't kill your back and it gives the baby a better sense of equilibrium...we used it will my baby for about 2 weeks and she started after that...it was slow at first but i really think that it helped a lot...good luck :)

Thank you to everyone. I am glad to see I am not the only one waiting for him to walk :o) He does much the same as all who commented. Walks with everything except unassisted. Does not yet have the confidence. I'll just keep waiting :o)

my son has was standing in his playpen and walking around holding on to things at 12 months but refused to try to walk outside the playpen till just over a month ago when i bought him a baby walker he held it for about two steps then let go and walked across the room. now you can not stophim and even goes out for little walks outside with his reins on so i can prevent him falling over as he sometimes tries to go to fast and trips over his feet!!

hello there! my son is 16 months old & still hasn't walked on his own. he grabs 1 of my fingers to walk. he can stand on his own & only now he's attempting to walk around the furniture. he doesn't try to take steps on his own yet as he's t afraid. my doctor told me just the same thing he told you. some kids take it easy but once they get there, they're there.

My 8 year old didn't walk until he was 14 months but my little one that was born in Jan.2008 walked at 9 months. All babies are different and if your doctor said not to worry than don't. The key is to let him take everything at his own pace.
