When did you get rid of the paci? Sleep problems?

My daughter is 2 1/2 and I just took her paci away about 3 weeks ago.We let it off into the sky attached to a balloon--she thought it was great. She did SO MUCH better than I thought she would in the fact that she doesn't ask for it, and only asked for it just the 2 days after and that was it. Where I can tell a change is with her nap. She used to nap between 1:30-4:30. Sometimes it took her a while to fall asleep, but she'd just lay there quietly until she did fall asleep. Now, if she falls asleep at all, it's only for about 30-45 minutes when she wakes up crying. I've let her go to see if she'll fall back asleep, but that has never happens. She also wakes several times in the night crying, but will usually fall back asleep after a few minutes. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with taking the paci away at such a late age? And if so, did it ever get back to normal. I find it hard to believe that she's old enough to not need a nap, especially when she was fine when she had the paci. But it's been 3 weeks, and still not better! Thanks!

I took my oldest daughter's binky away at close to 3. I know I know I'm a terrible mother for letting her have it that long. She cried at nap and bedtime for 3 days straight before she was over it. My youngest just turned 3 and she's had hers gone now for about 6 months. She cried for only one day and then that was that. 3 weeks seems like a long time. Have you tried alternate things to soothe her? Does she have a special blankie or toy? If she doesn't start sleeping better soon maybe she wasn't ready to give it up yet, and maybe you should consider giving it back to her. So before all the anti-paci people come on here and scoff at my suggestion, remember you alone know what's best for your daughter. Good luck!

We took my son's pasi away a while back mostly because we went on a week long trip and we forgot it :P no choice he had to quit cold turkey! His naps have changed as he got older though. He takes less naps now, some days doesn't nap at all, some days doesn't nap till late and sleeps a while... I try to wear him down and have a pretty flexible nap schedule, if he wants to nap I let him if he doesn't then that means earlier bed time :)

I got rid of the paci when my son was 2 1/2. One day it was just gone and never given back to him. I didn't have any issues like not sleeping well. I too noticed a difference with his nap. But we're going on 3 months that he hasn't had it and he's doing great. His naptimes are still weird, if he takes one at all but other then that it is all around good. It will get back to normal soon.
